Quoting United787 (Reply 3): Great news for ORD! Would love to see UA fly to the Gulf from ORD...
Until UA could even make those IAD flights all nonstops instead of tag-ons (BAH / DOH), it's gonna be hard to imagine any other hub gaining Gulf flights

About time! They opened a sales office in the John Hancock Center almost four years ago and I figured service was right around the corner. Good to see things actually starting up.

So the new-DOH airport gets exercised?
Exciting news. I'm sad it isn't a 787 route. IMHO, this would be an excellent 787 starter route...
Quoting mogandoCI (Reply 2): Maybe someone would again misinterpret this as QR joining oneworld ... just like EY
IMHO, QR is the better choice for an alliance of the mid-east carriers. EK is an 800 pound gorilla, so why wants to help feed it? EY just doesn't yet have the network QR does with the potential connection times.
Quoting LAXdude1023 (Reply 4): I think with all the work the OneWorld carriers are putting in talking to the Gulf carriers that its logical that one could join.
QF and EY are in play... Although I think OneWorld should try to snag 9W first... Just my
Quoting IrishAyes (Reply 13): This will be popular for travelers headed to SE Asia.
So why isn't EK on the route?
As the A380 wing crack issue is resolved, this could be an opportunity for EK... Not for an A380 to ORD. Not initially. But to free up a 77W or 77L.
Quoting IrishAyes (Reply 13): Unfortunately, will make things more difficult for struggling AI and give EY a challenge.
AI does enough to make it difficult on themselves. I suspect EK will also join the market and that will "challenge" EY tremendously.

If the route is to be a 77W that seems like a lot of economy seats for the route. I wonder where QR will be sending their 787s if not on these NA routes.
How many more 77Ws do they have to take delivery of? Will this aircraft allocation be a new build or will it be due to a network shuffle?

QF ended their relationship with EY years ago, QF wasn't willing to give EY full access to its frequent flyer program. No VA and EY have a full JV going. There are several media reports of QR and QF now looking at a copy of the VA/EY JV. There are also multiple articles regarding a QF EK alliance, I think QF and QR would be a much better fit, would be fantastic to see QR in oneworld.

Congratulations to QR and Chicago for another new airline starting service. Having a look online based on the arrival time of the QR flight into DOH, it offers pretty decent connections onwards to India (3-4 hrs) but I'm very curious as to what the return time to Chicago is. Can't find anything online and it seems that it isnt loaded into GDS.
Does anyone know the flight details of this new route?

Quoting CHRISBA777ER (Reply 21): I'm 100% sure ORD and DTW is in the next tranche list for EK
Boston has been rumored to be first on the list, but it is of course possible the EK retaliates and announces ORD for March, as EK did when EY announced IAD.

I understood that Qatar had Boston on their 'short list,' but wasn't aware Emirates did.
In any event, since ORD will be served using a 773, that means one of the first 787s can be tabbed for Boston. BOS couldn't fill anything bigger than that anyway, and probably not even daily. My guess would be 3x or 4x per week.

I've noticed recently that a QR 777F is coming to ORD on a more regular basis. Can't wait to see a QR 77W!
