o Sarasota-Bradenton, Florida

Sounds good to me?

So what's going to happen to SRQ?

Looking back at the grants thread:

Quoting LAXintl:
Sarasota, Florida
Sarasota Bradenton International Airport is requesting $500,000 in grant funding with additional $315,000 local in-kind support to implement and market new westbound air access. The airport and community have long identified major service deficiency with lack of any air service westward across the Gulf to a national hub. In addition the recent decision by AirTran to exit the Sarasota market entirely further limits options for those travelers headed west. The goal of the grant is to provide revenue guarantees to gain access to and support ongoing service to hubs in Dallas, Denver or Houston.

I can somewhat see F9 attempting something, or maybe-just maybe- VX doing something somewhere. What do you guys think?

VX to SRQ would be suicide, good fit for F9 though

Was this the full amount? That one was one of the higher dollar figures and involved the smallest aircraft.

No amount of money that they continue to throw at STX will change the fact that the traveling public generally prefers STT for various reasons. It's not even air travel along. Look at the amount of cruise ships STT gets vs. STX. So much so that they extended the Crown Bay dock to move the ships that would set anchor in the harbor and have to shuttle the pax by ferry to the main apron. DL has been giving a go at STX since 2005 but is finally bowing out. Started with Sat only 738 service then it went to Sat only CR7s on EV. Saw a brief period where it was Wed/Sat on S5 then varying service on 9E and EV CR9s. Some DL 88s here and there during peak season now finally back to EV Sat only CR7s.

What gets measured gets done.

A link to Houston or Dallas seems natural.

They received the full $900,000 they asked for.

I smell more G4 service.

Quoting LAXintl (Thread starter):
o Champaign-Urbana, Illinois
o Bloomington-Normal, Illinois
o Springfield, Illinois

Surprised that all three are getting SCASD grants, as the airports are so close to one another.

Quoting LAXintl (Thread starter):
o Bentonville/Northwest Arkansas

They were looking for a network LCC this time around (G4 already serves XNA). I could see another new city on the F9 route map.

Quoting LAXintl (Thread starter):
o Newport News, Virginia

One word (or is it two?): PEOPLExpress.

That might be the case, however there are wider economic interest at play to foster improved air links at STX.

Anyhow with money on the table, I would not be surprised if someone like JetBlue try something. In their application they had identified the NYC metro area as their largest traffic market without a direct link.

Quoting FWAERJ (Reply 5):

Yes indeed.
Champaign/Urbana wanted a DC link on UA, Bloomington a NYC or DC link while Springfield wanted help with leisure markets such as Vegas or Florida.

Maybe, maybe not.

Bid was to reestablish a link to NYC and BOS. Sounds more like a RJs operation for a major to me.

Maybe, but I don't see a lot in there that gets my Frontier juices flowing. SRQ, perhaps, but I think (or hope) they're focussing all Florida on MCO.

There are a couple I'd maybe like to see - Frontier PHF-BOS perhaps - but I don't think it'll happen. I might have liked BMI-MYR, but doesn't Vision have that already?

Very happy to see that YNG was awarded $780,000 from Washington to support daily service to a hub in the region. Silver wrote a letter of support for YNG-IAD service via United Express. That seems like a solid route overall with great connectivity, as well as some O&D traffic to DC.

Hope to see it happen!

Ironically, this morning the Youngstown Vindicator wrote an editorial in support of the YNG SCASD Application:
http://www.vindy.com/news/2012/aug/1...s-july-passenger-count-impressive/

July 2012 was YNG's best month in 20 years carrying 10,869 passengers. A far cry from the hundred or so they used to transport about a decade ago.

And with that, it seems that DEN is the favorite destination, as it was last year, and mentioned in 7 of the awards. IAD/DCA is next with 4, ORD, SLC and LAX/SoCal/West Coast get 3, and then ATL, IAH, DFW, NYC, and PHX/AZA get 2 each. There are a few others that are mentioned once.

WIth the airlines, UA is in the running with 9 possible grants, DL and G4 with 5 each, AA with 3, and F9 and Silver Air with 2 each among the airlines with more than 1 possible grant.

I think that this is correct for the most part.... any corrections/comment/etc welcome.

And now, what $$$$ will be used by who and where remains the question?????

Really impressed to see FOE get the grant. Good luck to them and we'll see if UA bites the grant. AA has done very well in seizing a sizable population of Topekans to fly out of MHK. We'll see if it affects our loads here at all.

UA is starting ORD soon from SRQ, filling the gap left by the cancellation of FL MDW-SRQ. Maybe we could see DEN or IAH added as well?

IAH-SRQ would be an old CO route, so with the government cheese in hand, I could see the return be much more likely.
