This was discussed a bit in the 787 production thread but I thought it warranted its own thread.

It should become their official new livery fleetwide.

It looks great! This does beg the question though, has there ever been another aircraft type where special liveries have been so prolific?

True... and the other "new" one, the A380 doesn't seem to have any special liveries that I can think of... why not?

Apparently all but oneof their 787s (The already painted one I assume!) will carry this special scheme, making the one in their normal livery the special one!

It is likely that 9 out of 10 will receive this special 787 livery, however, CZ is actually repainting aircrafts before the delivery...I was told they're more than one 787 painted in the usual CZ scheme beforehand and were waiting for GE engines. But they're all undergoing repaint process starting this month.

Thus, I'm wondering whether the remain one will be in SkyTeam livery..and that wouldn't be bad either.

Probably because deliveries and customers were more spread out, and because it is such a visually different aircraft. The 787 is much harder to distinguish for your everyday traveler (from the outside at least), and they will be filling up airports far sooner, so operators want to make their planes stand out to take advantage of the new plane 'advantage'.

This is very nice. I think it beats ANA special livery on 787.
Wish they paint more aircraft like this one but apparently according to CXFlyboy, this would be the only one.

 checkmark

It's very whimsical, and with the feather motif it captures the sense of flight.. ANA's special 787 livery, while nice to look at is really just nice to look at.. it doesn't invoke as much.

That being said, the placement of the "787" seems kinda awkward.

I think you misunderstand. I have heard that 9 out of 10 aircraft will be in this special scheme.

Possibly because, as a virtue of its size, the A380 is distinctive enough to be recognised as something 'different' or 'new' without a special livery.

The 787, as technologically complex as it is, is (aesthetically) just another twin and a stubby one at that. Hence, why the airlines feel the need to advertise it as something new, so that your average Joe Bloggs will take note.

Or at least that's the way I see it.

They should paint this across their entire fleet. Their current livery is very 1980s

I wonder who designed the livery?

Nope. It's not. The only thing the MAS management has confirmed is that all 388 will be painted in that blue/white livery. The rest of the fleets will still be painted in red/blue/white. Corporate logo is still the same as the one they have been using for more than 2 decades, same design, same shape. The corporate Malaysia Airlines font/design is still the same too.

Its a really nice livery, well done to them! I hope we see some more special liveries by other airlines when they get their 787s.

While I generally like it when an airline paints an aircraft in a different way than a white fuselage and a logo on the tailfin, IMO they've a bit too far with this scheme. To me it looks more like something belonging to a Brazilian carnival parade than a serious passenger airplane. Since I see nothing but positive comments I probably will get    for this, but I like the United 787 livery much better, a mix between its own and the Boeing 787 'light' livery.

.......not enough white on it

What a relief to find an airline willing to try something other than 95 shades of white for a change. Joking aside I actually think it's very nice.
