Delta Doing Business For Aeroflot At JFK

I heard that Delta employess are at the Aeroflot desk at JFK and handle luggage, etc. Also that some Delta planes fly for Aeroflot when the Aeroflot planes are in maintenance. Is this true?

Delta planes in service for Aeroflot I hope not. Delta employees working at the Aeroflot counter is possible. But I don't have information of this case. However I consider to Aeroflot as a future SkyTeam partner.

DL employees do check in passengers for Aeroflot at JFK, but no DL Aircraft is used in place of Aeroflots.

If Aeroflots plane is stuck at JFK, they are SOL

Delta is the handling agent for Aeroflot at JFK. Delta inherited the contract from Pan Am years ago.

Delta also handles Malev and South African Airways.

Also Delta does the ground handling at JFK for China Airlines, Avianca, Aeromexico, and I think ANA.

When I flew out of JFK to St. Petersburg in 1992, it was with Aeroflot, and the gate and check-in were handled by Delta. The catering was as well, but it was not Delta food that was served. At the time, this many not have been the best thing as Aeroflot's "cuisine" left much to be desired. In San Francisco, Aeroflot's SFO-SVO flight was handled by Alaska Airlines in 1993. I wonder how it is determined what airline will handle what carrier's flights in this fashion?

Depends on who is equiped and willing to handle the contract. The contract could also be given to a vendor not just another airline.

Delta also loads up a nice, big NW cargo 747 at CVG around 12m ET.
I can never get a good angle for a picture, though.

Delta's News Digest reported that Delta plans to expand its insourcing at JFK with its new terminal. It is evidently one of the methods with which Delta plans to pay for the new terminal.
