Ceiba 777-200LR With Portuguese Reg

I was just in LIS and saw the CEIBA 77L, previously registered 3C-LLS. It now has a Portuguese reg CS-TQX (I think?), and it says "Operated by White Airways" on the side.

Is this perhaps to avoid any EU or U.S. airspace restrictions.

That is probably it. I'm pretty sure Equatorial Guinea is one of those countries which the EU issued a blanket ban against.

Edit: Just checked they are blacklisted.

All i can say about that:

The original 772LR was used as government aircraft for Equatorial Guinea. One might wonder how the country can afford a T7, but once you realize that they are swimming in oil and are the richest country in Africa and #28 in the world it does make sense.

At first President Obiang bought used it as governement and VIP aircraft. The livery was designed by Lila Design (http://www.liladesign.com) and used the livery of airEG as basis.

As far as i know, Ceiba is on the EU blacklist (with excpetions to some a/c types like the T7, which makes me wonder).

The change of operator therefore indeed might be to avoid the blacklist.

Could always be on ACMI exclusively to the Government of Equatorial Guinea through a complex ownership arrangement. ACMI doesn't necessarily mean an aircraft is publicly available for ad-hoc charter.
