Sad news with approximately 30 people on board, including reportedly Sudan's Minister of Guidance and Religious Endowments, Ghazi al-Sadiq Abdel Rahim. No word on airline/aircraft type but hopefully there'll be lots of survivors.

A Sudanese minister and 30 other people were killed when their plane crashed Sunday on the way to Sudan’s war-torn South Kordofan state for a function marking the Muslim Eid holiday.
Al Arabiya’s correspondent in Sudan said the plane was carrying Guidance and Endowments Minister Ghazi al-Sadeq.
“All people on board were killed,” Abdelhafiz Abdelrahim, spokesman for the Sudan Aviation Authority, told AFP, which reported along with other news agencies that 31 people were on the flight.

As sad as this sounds, and granted, these are aviation-related deaths; but 30+/- people killed is a very small number of casualties compared to all those who have been killed in Darfur through the means of genocide. Let's not take our eyes off the big picture happening in Sudan as we discuss what may seemingly be a tragic plane crash. As of yet, fundamental key aviation-forum discussion pieces,such as aircraft type, reg., etc. have not been discussed on this thread, but yet the purpose of the trip is already being discussed. These are extremely important topics to cover in a forum such as this. So for the record, what kind of plane was it?

Sudan's Civil Aviation Authority reported at the time of the crash visibility was substantially reduced due to a dust and dirt storm in the area. Three ministers (Guidance/Endowment, Tourism and Education) were on board of the Antonov airliner. An investigation has been opened.

The AV Herald article also mentions that this airline had 3 different names- Ababeel Aviation, Tarco Airlines, and now Alfa Airlines Sudan. It seems like they change after every accident.
