2 questions

1-Why does KLM fly the 747 combi to LAX? A330 & 777 too large for this market? When KLM retires the 747M, what will they operate to LAX?

2- Looking at SFO-AMS flights, it shows 2 flights by KLM leaving 15 minutes apart. Is this right?

DL9381 A330 departs 2:25pm (operated by KLM)
KLM 606 MD11 departs 2:40pm

Is the AMS-SFO actually larger than AMS-LAX?

KLM does lots of cargo biz at LAX -- including in the unique horse transport niche for which they are well known.

Don't know what you are looking at, but KLM only has a single SFO flight. KL606 departs at 2pm.

LAX has 2 flights - KL602 daily and KL604 3x week.

that's what I thought, but according to passrider.com "2 routes" that doesn't seem right

They fly the full pax and the combi. However nowadays only the Combi

Which is entirely incorrect as KL605/6 is a 747 full pax in Summer (OK final month a 77W) and in W12 an A330-200.

This will be slightly less after September 18th when the 777-200 will take over 3 weekly flights (300 weekly seats less)LAX is a daily 747 combi and 3 weekly MD11 (2,780 weekly seats). Between June 21st and August 17th the capacity between AMS-LAX was higher, but before KL603/4 was operational (and as of mid Spetember when KL603/4 stops operating) the seat capacity between AMS-LAX was much lower. Next winter it will be a daily A330-200 for SFO (243 seats) and a daily 747 combi (275 seats).

No, it's still a mix for KL 601/602
Days 357: 747 full pax
Days 1246: 747 combi

KL 603:
Days 467: M11

AMS-SFO is now planned for 5x weekly M11, like last year. It was scheduled for 6x weekly 332, but this was changed 3 weeks ago.
