Emirates 77L Stuck + C-17 At DFW (8/28)?

I was driving today through the airport and noticed that the standard EK222 flight from DFW-DXB was boarding (reg: A6-EWC).

However, upon driving further, I saw another Emirates 77L (reg: A6-EWF) parked with the ENG1 being inspected (or fixed) at the ramp just next to the south bridges (west side). FlightAware says the flight took off yesterday, but no flight today. Clearly it's an error, so one would assume the August 27th flight was cancelled.

Also, up north, near the AA Cargo building, I noticed an odd sight: a C-17 Globemaster parked on the east side (north of the north bridges).

I also understand that 18R/36L is under limited operations due to the taxiway being extended to the UPS ramp, but today the runway was completely closed (no lighting, as well as flashing "X" equipment at the touchdown zone). I thought this runway would remain operational?

I'm guessing an engine change maybe?

Aren't engine changes normally done indoors?

Is Obama coming to Dallas soon? Could explain the C-17.

As far as I'm concerned, if Obama were to fly into the DFW area, they would fly into DAL instead. Bush flew into there multiple times with Air Force One, so it's already security-approved.

Not always, if they have no access to one then they'll do it wherever they can. I thought I saw AA MD80 in BHM having an engine change out on the ramp (no hangar) this week.

So is DFW.

My guess is the C-17 brought in the engine. Is it USAF C-17, or one from Qatar or the UAE?

The C-17 is USAF. Saw it sitting there yesterday when we took off.

It sure is! Was sitting at a red light right at the threshold when it took off over my head. An incredible sight.

Still, does anyone have any updated information on 18R/36L operations? The runway appears to be completely closed.

I know this won't be much help, but here are the current NOTAMS:

KDFW DALLAS/FORT WORTH INTL
!DFW 08/416 (KDFW A4143/12) DFW RWY 18R/36L CLSD TIL 1209222200
!DFW 08/406 (KDFW A4125/12) DFW TWY E2 BTN RWY 18R/36L NONSTD MARKINGS
!DFW 08/405 (KDFW A4124/12) DFW TWY E3 BTN RWY 18R/36L NONSTD MARKINGS
!DFW 08/378 (KDFW A4069/12) DFW TWY E1 BTN RWY 18R/36L AND TWY E NONSTD MARKING
!DFW 08/370 (KDFW A4059/12) DFW TWY WF AND WG CLSD BTN RWY 18R/36L, TWY E
!DFW 08/355 (KDFW A4043/12) DFW NAV ILS RWY 18R OTS WEF 1208250300-1209222359

Definitely nothing unusual. Only thing that caught my eye is the ILS OTS. Anyone else care to shed some light?

*Edit* I was just thinking the C17 could've been a repo flight from an area that Isaac was approaching. I know here in OKC, TIK had an overflow of T6s from SPS that came from Tyndall AFB in FL.
