LAN Airlines’ CEO, Ignacio Cueto, expressed his enthusiasm for the 787 Dreamliner. He also highlighted the significance of the first delivery of the 787 Dreamliner for LAN Airlines and the significant benefits that the 787 Dreamliner will have both for the aviation industry in Latin America and the enhanced travel experience of LAN's customers:

Quote:
“LAN is proud to be the first airline in the Americas to receive the 787 Dreamliner,” said Ignacio Cueto, CEO LAN Airlines. "This is not only a milestone for LAN, but also for all of our passengers that will experience an enhanced LAN in-flight experience thanks to the cutting edge technology and visionary elements of this new aircraft. The Dreamliner will make it possible for us to cover greater distances in a more environmentally conscious and highly efficient aircraft which will help ensure our sustainable growth“.

I was disappointed to read in the piece below that LAN's economy class pitch will be less than it has on the 767s at 31" vs 32" on the 767.

Some other pictures of the cabin, mood lighting, as well as reference to the reduced leg room can be found here?

LAN has announced its initial route plans for the 787s this year and will soon load them in the GDS. LAN 787 flights may start within the next two weeks. LAN may also deploy the 787 on the SCL-LIM-LAX route later this year.

LAN said it expects to start Los Angeles-Lima 787 flights later this year. LAN CEO Ignacio Cueto said in a statement, “The Dreamliner will make it possible for us to cover greater distances in a more environmentally conscious and highly efficient aircraft.” Other cities expected to be served by LAN 787s over the next year are Santiago, Buenos Aires, Madrid and Frankfurt, the carrier said.

That is very disappointing especially when you consider that 787 will be used on long haul flights....

Congratulations, LAN and Boeing !!!

Now, I have to say that I'm a little bit disappointed with the new Economy Class seats. I was hoping for an 8-abreast layout, but that just faded away. Also, LAN could have installed foot support at every seat, not to mention they're reducing the seat pitch from 32" (on the 767) to 31" (on the new 787). Overall, I'm not impressed with these new Economy Class seats.

Well some people tend to be tedious when it comes to economy class seat pitch without factoring the width of the actual seats compared to those on the B-767-316ERs. It's also interesting to note that LAN is considering introducing a Premium Economy Cabin on the 787s...

I like the color of the economy class seats. Not the boring blue or gray that seems to be the trend today, but alternating rows of blue and orange. I commend them for daring to be different.

LAN already alternates the coloring of rows with blue and purple seats on its fleet of widebody a/c. However, with this B-787, LAN is introducing its new Economy Class with the new AVOD system and other features. LAN is also introducing the new Premium Business Class with this B-787. Currently, LAN has 4 new B-767-316ERs featuring the new Premium Business Class and the new Economy Class. LAN has 9 more B-767-316ERs on order that will feature the new cabins. LAN's other B-767-316ERs will be retrofitted with the new cabins over the next two years.

Quite industry standard I would say... Me and my fellow tall Dutchmen have to withstand 31" on KLM already for a long time in long haul. Still we manage to survive and fly this airline. If an airline wants to survive these days, they need to make money...

Yes, it is "a freaking airplane" with all the basics of every airplane....like a Ferrari is just "a freaking car", and a diamond is just "a freaking piece of carbon"...

It's important to note that since CC-BBA is flying non-stop from KPAE to SCL; LAN's 787 is expected to receive ETOPS 180 certification from Chile's DGAC expeditiously. Thus, LAN's 787s will be able to operate all routes currently operated with the B-767-316ERs with-in a very short period.

The width of the 787 economy seats on LAN is also smaller than they have on the 767s. 17.5' vs 16.8" on the Dreamliner, so that factor does not make it better, rather the contrary.

Indeed, 9 abreast makes for narrower seats. ANA's 8 abreast looks so much better (2:4:2 config is obviousy more comfortable than 3:3:3) and combined with the decreased legroom, it really is disappointing.
