In light of the fact that YNG has initiated this very thing I am now wondering what your opinion is of the concept of acquiring pledges for extra cash potential to attract new air service. Some airports have acquired a grant and some have not but in their desperation to attract new air service everybody knows that cash is king.
Personally I favor seeking out local businesses that seem to be doing well. Using TOL as an example I have suggested in a local forum that they seek out the administration of the local Jeep factory. Jeeps could be parked in the terminal on display for travelers to look at along with any desired advertising displays. Jeep could help fund with a larger amount something that might assist in sparking a new airline entrant to the airport.
A local casino could set up a similar arrangement with advertising displays and even a few slot machines in the terminal or terminal bar in exchange for a large amount like I suggested with Jeep.
I guess the difference is actual funding as apposed to pledges and in potentially larger amounts.
I am not knocking what YNG is doing whatsoever. I am merely pointing out what they are doing and what I like better. Each airport administration has to decide what is best for them or I suppose both concepts could be initiated at the same time.
What do you think about these two concepts?

It may be a way to get new service, but it may be a short-term solution if the passenger numbers and support aren't there. When the money runs out and the local businesses aren't willing to fork over additional monies to sustain service, that airline will likely bail as soon as they are able to.

But airports like LAS aren't hurting for service domestically. They have service from AA, B6, UA, US, DL, FL, WN, NK, SY, HA, AS, VX, F9. LAS is a major vacation destination, and unlike many vacation destinations, there really isn't a true off-season for tourism there. LAS in recent years has focused more on getting international service.
Smaller airports have seen service downgraded to smaller regional a/c or have seen service cut altogether. TOL is a great example of this. In the last decade, they saw service from a number of major airlines that served the airport and that service doesn't look to be coming back anytime soon and are down to American Eagle/American Connection service to ORD and service to SFB and PIE on Allegiant. With Toledo being so close to Detroit that it really doesn't make a lot of sense for airlines that offer service out of DTW to offer service at TOL, especially since regional airlines have retired smaller turboprop a/c from their fleets. A city the size of Toledo is highly unlikely to get Federal dollars to subsidize service either and something like a travel bank may be their only shot.
