WHAT IS THIS REPORT?
This compares what is for sale THIS WEEK for the stated period versus what was for sale LAST WEEK...It does NOT compare to last year or now (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED).

HOW DO I READ IT?
XXX-YYY DEC 4>5 JAN 4>5 ; means that the listed airline changed the frequency between the two airports to add from 4 to 5 roundtrips in December and January. No other months were changed. I only list one direction, although it is possible the listed change is only one way. It is too difficult to average the two directions. I assume the change is roundtrip and that is most often the case.

HOW ARE THE DAILY DEPARTURES CALCULATED?
This report uses total operations for the month listed, divided over the days in the month.

WHAT ARE THE FRACTIONAL FLIGHTS?
Non-daily operations create fractional weekly service. In most cases flights are rounded, but in the case of international service or markets with low frequency, fractions are shown. If a flight operated 5 days out of 7, it would show 0.8 flights.

WHY ARE THERE WEIRD FREQUENCIES IN FAR AWAY MONTHS FOR LCCs?
Most airlines publish schedules 11 months in advance. This report covers the next 9 months. That avoids seeing schedules as they are loaded. Several LCCs load their schedules less than 9 months into the future. Their schedules may also end mid-month. If B6 loads their schedule until Jan15, all flights in Janaury will show half frequency because of the way the report is created.

WHY IS A WHOLE AIRLINE'S SCHEDULE SHOWN AS CHANGING FOR A FUTURE MONTH?
Similarly to the previous question, some airlines load their schedule from nothing inside the 9 month window of this report. When their schedule is extended it will show as new service because there was no previous schedule to compare to. In some instances I will show a more valid comparison against another period.

THOSE FLIGHTS AREN'T DELTA, THEY ARE PINNACLE
This report only shows the marketing code. It is too complicated to show all the operators.

THE FREQUENCIES MAY HAVE CHANGED AS YOU SHOW, BUT THE SEATS DIDNT CHANGE BECAUSE OF EQUIPMENT SWAPS
That is a natural weakness of a frequency based report, but it provides something to discuss below.

THE FREQUENCY DOESN'T SHOW A CHANGE, E.G. 4>4
This happens as a result of rounding. There is a change in service that is large enough to be listed, but through rounding it does not appear.

I marked some of the ones I thought were interesting with an "*".

That's about 18 more flights cut out of IAH (which is more like 15 cut if you count the minor additions). Still, it looks like Smisek wasn't kidding about an IAH drawdown when WN was begging for an international concourse at HOU.

My gut feeling is that a lot of these IAH frequency cuts will end up moved to new cities and frequency additions out of DEN (where UA has to add flights per the lease deal) when next week's thread rolls around.

Meanwhile, WN has steadily built up HOU. So honestly...a net gain for Houston. Especially when you add increases by other carriers.

Unbelievable to see the pull downs at IAH. Nice to see WN growing. I don't think it's possible for UA to get any more bad press in Houston. Today's 3rd story on the local news was about how flying is "about to get more uncomfortable" with the story being about how UA is moving to thinner seats and adding more rows to the airbus fleet. The story in the Houston Chronicle on-line version is filled with angry customer backlash... which has become standard issue for any and every local story about United.

Really sad to see as I was a very loyal CO flyer for two decades.

It is funny that backlash is happening when people really don't know what the seats will really be or how comfortable or uncomfortable they will be. All we know is that they will add a whole extra row (6 seats).
I really hope all of those commenters are pmUA fliers as they are the ones who have the grips. pmCO fliers have and had the worst seats (for comfort) out of the two. I would take any pmUA plane seat over any pmCO seat in economy. (and I have flown well over a million miles on pmUA and pmCO combined)

They funny part is that when the Kioto seat-gate thing happened and it was CO I bet nobody dared have a negative article about them. Which arguably that is a much worse story.

Only 2 out these 17 trans-border routes show decreased service over the 6-7 month time-frame! (And one of the decreases is the FAT-GDL count for next month only, and the other is a discontinued route out of LA!)

Good week for Volaris; we'll see how many are still with us after next week's report comes out...   (I'm personally very happy to see SAN-GDL back on for at least the first half of 2013... IF this schedule count holds up!)

I'd like to think that AA reducing JFK-BRU is just a seasonal adjustment. But if by May they still have zero flights, then it begins to look like a withdrawal. Are LH Group at JFK (and UA at EWR) too much to compete against?

I'm very impressed by COPA's U.S. growth -- additional daily flights from PTY to IAD, LAX, MCO, and MIA, and now LAS will become daily. Anecdotal only, but folks I know who have flown COPA say the flights go out full.

UA EWR-SJU MAY 1.4>1.0

Why is UA so small to SJU compared to airlines at JFK? Is Newark not a convenient choice for the majority of pax going to P.R.? I remember when they flew A300s there.

I thought this withdrawal odd until I saw:

Which partially makes up for the BWI loss. I think DEN-LGA yields must be much higher.

The story in the Houston Chronicle on-line version is filled with angry customer backlash... which has become standard issue for any and every local story about United.

Sad to say, but the Houston Barnacle -- errhm, "Chronicle" -- now jumps on every opportunity to portray United negatively. Facile, I say. What that rag offers is not journalism. And Houston is a one-newpaper town. No offense to any Chron-lovers out there.

It is funny that backlash is happening when people really don't know what the seats will really be or how comfortable or uncomfortable they will be. All we know is that they will add a whole extra row (6 seats).

AC PDX-YYZ APR 1.0>0

Hey BoeingGuy you beat me to it, but I didn't see any answer to your question, I was under the impression that the AC PDX-YYZ seasonal route was doing well. Maybe AC will re-start in May, I'm not sure when the traditional time for the route to start really is, but May would seem right for the markets served.

Just another example of how K5 is not a good airline to it's served communities. I hope very much that SeaPort takes on the small community flying that AS dropped with the Q200's and once again places like PDT, LMT, ONP, SLE, AST may get some service.

Cool route, Is this something that has operated before that is returning, or a new add?

Is this a new route for WN, or something seasonal that is returning? Just curious, I thought ONT was not attracting passengers very well.

EWR-SJD still surviving surprises me. This one strikes me as unnecessary considering they have IAH, LAX and SFO to funnel people here. Is SJD really that high yielding from NYC?

NYC to anywhere has a decent mix of business and leisure.

Understood.   The process I am using now is fully automated so there is not the possibility of typos, but it still depends upon accurate info from the carriers that file with OAG and OAG using accurate codes as evidence by the Chilean domestic flights.

Well, in fairness, keep in mind that is a summary of 12 months of changes. Since WN does not "change" schedules they would never be in this report, they only extend their schedules so I have to compare to the prior year. I believe the DEN-LGA happened way before the BWI-LGA cut, maybe like 5 months.

More interesting to me is that both BWI-LGA and BWI-EWR are going away and what does that mean for BWI vs. ATL in the long term. It would seem they are saying NYC-Florida can be handled via ATL. I guess.

Unfortunately, newspapers all across the country have a pervasive anti-airline bias. The Minneapolis Star Tribune (aka "the red star" for its exceptionally liberal slant) has been relentlessly anti-DL and anti-NW for as long as I can remember. The Star Tribune generally has positive things to say about the Twin Cities' other big employers like Target, Cargill, and General Mills unless they really screw up, but they will almost never have anything nice to say about DL.

In another thread, I said that "using the Star Tribune for fish wrap would be an insult to whatever fish was being wrapped". It sounds like the Houston Chronicle has the same problem.

as far as I am concerned any publicity is good publcity...what UA should do is (if they have any sort of social media team) is for "someone" to write a positive UA experience in the comments to the story...that will usually generatee all sorts of "I had a good expereince too" and put an end to the story.

Have they learnt nothing from "united broke my guitar"

Given CFO of UA gave a presentation that will have a 2-3% yoy for Sept to Dec we will be seeing more cuts on the UA side in the weeks to come. I suspect that some of the cuts we have already seen are part of that.

Well, NW took State money in the form of loan guarantees and then defaulted on the deal in Ch11 basically. I don't think Target ever did that. When you take taxpayer money it vastly increases scrutiny...as it should.
