As mentioned in the previous thread, I have a bunch of pics taken at PIT in the late 80's and 90's. I finally scanned these and uploaded them. So here they are, all 380 of them.
As you will see, I timed most of my trips to the airport to coincide with BA's arrival. Unfortunately, there are some carriers I wish I had photographed, such as Nordair, City Express, JAT, Hooters Air, ATA and BA L-1011s.
This first one is of horrible quality. It was taken with 110 film during a rain storm. I included it here because it was my first ever shot of a foreign widebody at PIT. Having grown up outside of NYC, I was spoiled with trips to JFK. After moving to PIT it was nothing but USAir narrow bodies, so when BA added PIT it was pretty exciting.
After USAir closed the DAY hub, it was common for them to park at least 3 mainline aircraft on the commuter ramp due to lack of gates.
Before the new terminal was built, 10L/28R was connected to the rest of the airfield with only this taxiway, so log jams were often present between departing and arriving aircraft.
There were many Canadian Airlines movements this day; probably YYZ diversions.

Sweet photos!
Where are the baby blue USAIR aircraft from? I had never seen that scheme before...
Supprised to see BA Sent the -400s here. I always thought it was just the -200s then 767s. Were they just subs or were they typically sheduled here? If scheduled, how long before the switch back to the -200s or the 767?

Thx; The 744's were scheduled daily for quite a while (at least a couple years). The PHL-PIT tag gave crews landing currency on the new type faster than BA's other routes. Their second 744 route was LHR-YMX-DTW for the same reason. NW's first 744 route was DTW-PHX.
As far as the blue USAir colors, that was a temporary hybrid scheme after the Piedmont merger (if its the pics I'm thinking of).

Fun seeing the variety in aircraft and liveries airports used to have. Four American megacarriers (assuming some kind of AA/US lash-up) is going to be soooooo boring.

Dude, these are ALL awesome pictures. Two questions...
1)Who was Keyair? Never heard of them...
2)On one picture, a USAir 767, was named "City of Tampa" Did they name their aircrafts back in the day?, or was there something special with that particular aircraft?
EVERYTHING i type on here, is the opinion of ME and not of any airline/company.

Key Air was a regular in the 80's. They did vacation charters to places like NAS and CUN. They later stated a small scheduled operation serving the northeastern US and Caribbean with a hub in SAV. This did not include PIT. http://www.departedflights.com/ZN100192p1.html
The "City of Tampa" 767 is a former Piedmont plane, and was named by them as they did with all their aircraft. In that series of photos you can see where the Piedmont logo on the tail was, in addition to "Piedmont" lettering on the fuselage.

I'm wondering the same thing. I don't recall US ever naming their aircraft.
Did PanAm serve PIT right before they went belly up in 1991? I seem to remember seeing one of their birds one time I was at the old terminal when I was little...
Do not bring stranger girt into your room. The stranger girt is dangerous, it will hurt your life.

IIRC Pan Am ended PIT before they went belly up, but not much before. Their last year or so of service was by Pan Am Express with ATR 42s.
The 727s pictured at the new terminal are Pan Am III

Thanks for making me feel old, I remember flying on those PanAm 727s, US 727s which are now long gone. However, I think AA still flies the same MD from back then to PIT every day still in 2012.

Thanks for these wonderful picks. As a little boy I spent my summers on my grandparent's deck, right under the approach to 28C. I used to write down all the aircraft that came in for landing! These pics bring back great memories of how busy PIT was, and the many airlines that operated to PIT. I distinctly remember JetTrain, NationsAir, and Eastwind out of the more obscure ones you posted. And Vanguard will always be my favorite...
I didn't know BA flew the 747 to PIT, either. By the time I started paying attention it was a Boeing 767. Typically I watched it land every day from the pool at Robinson. It came in early afternoon.
Please direct your attention to the flight attendants in the cabin...

I've only flown into PIT a few times and the first time was in 2007 so I really enjoyed seeing a history of the airport like that. I even saw a few airlines I didn't even know existed!

Quite a nostalgic trip there, thank you. I have a similar collection of photos from the same time period. Although my collection isn't nearly as extensive as this one, I do have a few shots of the BA L10's and some TW 762's. The late 70's through the early 2000's was an exciting time at PIT, the future seemed limitless then.

Wow... amazing set of pictures. Particularly loved the shots of all the aircraft at the old pre-1992 terminal. I was scheduled to fly BOS-PIT-DFW in 1991 when I was ten years old, but when we arrived at BOS our flight had been canceled and we were re-routed through CLT instead. I've always regretted not getting to see the old building before it was closed. On subsequent visits to PIT in '94 and '95 it was still there, but abandoned and with most of the jetways removed. Any chance you have any interior shots of it you could share?
And the new terminal... to a 13-year old in 1994 that was just about the most amazing place I'd ever seen. The USAir hub was in full swing in those days... I had never been in an airport that felt so bustling. And I grew up in DFW!

I seem to remember reading in this forum a long time ago that Pan Am and Midway (the original) were each allocated a gate on Midfield's Concourse C, and Eastern was to have two gates on Concourse D. All three folded before the new complex opened.

Unfortunately I don't have any of my own. However, these sites have some great shots:
There are also post cards on eBay with interior shots.

25 steeler83: What markets did EA fly to out of PIT besides ATL? I saw that some 757s served PIT. Was that scheduled service? Also, did AA fly anything else into PI
26 USPIT10L: Yes, PanAm did fly here until November of 1991. It was daily 727 service to JFK and later a tag-on to BNA was added. For years, they had a one-stop f
