I see this winter schedule has 738 just added for the RON from DEN.

Just changed last night.

For all of the naysayers about Denver, it seems United did not get that memo about drawing down. Now before I get flamed, (1) yes I know that this is just one flight (but there are many other examples) and (2) it may be just for the winter, but everytime capacity goes up a little, more people flow through needing either other flight options or larger aircraft.

I think the next 12 months will be very interesting for DEN and UAL as a whole.

I just bought 9 tickets to BZN from SHV using the new nonstop to DEN from SHV...due in most part to the now 1 stop connection offered.

From a business standpoint, I like where UAL is headed in terms of flight/route planning.

At any rate, congrats to BZN and hope the planes stay full with good yields.

UA has been flying A319s to Bozeman from EWR on the weekends.

UA has been quietly expanding the DEN hub, both in frequency and gauge.

UA also does (or did) mainline from ORD - I booked my stepmom on it back in July.

I want to live in an old and converted 727...

The only thing special about this is that it is 738 rather than 319 or 320. I've lived in BZN for over 3 years, and can tell you that we get at least one UA airbus from DEN each day for most of the year.

Is it my imagination -- or is the extreme west end of Concourse B -- minus the USAirways gates (15 and 17) -- becoming the new sCO-land -- receiving lots of 738s?

But how quickly you forget that the what changed the dynamics of UA at DEN was the council's decision in May to restructure the airport's debt and pass the savings on to the airlines. This restructure could save UA up to $22 million if certain benchmarks are reached. One of these benchmarks is a 4 1/2% increase in capacity. Prior to this, UA's direction in Denver was not in an upward trajectory.

Well . . . it's the first I've heard (we don't get the Denver papers   ) .

And at the same time, the RJ gates are out of control. Some times of day, just walking is impossible. I remember several weeks ago, the line at Heidi's Deli was nearly the length of the wing, and they were actually running out of bread.

I don't disagree, but frequency and capacity can be two separate things. Also, using frequency to build up capacity (ie. adding a lot of RJ routes), is a much more expensive proposition.

There will be many more s-CO 737s at DEN in the coming months.

Primarily because the cost of operating at DEN was prohibitive. The renegotiated lease makes it a much more attractive proposition.

That is an interesting turn of events. Based off the witner schedule, it looked like they were going down to all RJs for DEN. However, they were running 1x A320 from DEN last year RON.

Has it been prohibitive ever since the airport opened?

Whether is has or hasn't, the recent restructuring of debt by the airport authority has allowed them to offer more attractive fees to the airlines at DEN.

The baggage system was supposed to save money, but its spectacular failure meant UA not only was held to the leases it signed to accommodate the system, but also the infrastructure for a more traditional baggage system.
