Currently, the longest route is EWR-HKG (Newark-Hong Kong) flown by Continental with a Boeing 777. It utilizes the polar routes to enable a non-stop flight.

In order to avoid all sorts of spam flying your way in the future, you might try a search of old posts before posing a questions like this. This type of info is easily found in the older threads. I hope that helps, and welcome to Airliners.net.

What about the new route that Canada 3000 will operate to India (YYZ-DEL), will this one be longer than EWR-HKG?

Assuming it still exists, South African's ATL-JNB nonstop is 300+ miles longer than any other contender.

Timz is correct, South African's ATL-JHB is the longest at 8430 miles, followed by their ATL-CPT at 8125 miles, both which are opperated by 744's. After these two is CO's EWR-HKG.

LAX-Melbourne Aus.

As I recall LAX-Melbourne was a contender for longest flight operated nonstop in both directions, but as a one-way flight it can't beat ATL-JNB.

There are several sites that calculate approximate distances between any two airports, and they're good enough to eliminate all of RJ_Delta's suggestions.

Why is there such a difference in opinions? A distance is a distance. I dont have the calculations information to do it, but why not find out how far the top 3 are, then rank them then? Is it EWR - HKG or ATL-JNB?

Just my opinion!

My posts/replies are strictly my opinion and not that of any company, organization, or Southwest Airlines.

Until August 30, 2001. UA's JFK-HKG is still the longest route in the world.

JFK-HKG is 3 miles further than EWR-HKG.

The question does not specify non stop.

Sorry if this doesn't exactly coincide with the topic but can you tell me what sites you are talking about that calculate the distance between airports. Thanks.

I have ATL-JNB being the longest flight in the world, but the longest roundtrip is JFK-HKG with a UA 777, and effective Friday it is EWR-HKG with a CO 777.

Hi everybody!

What is the most annoying thing happen on a long distance flight?
In my opinion:

1.) the guy sitting in front of you push the seat all the way back and you have completely no legroom.

2.) The guy in front of you drops the pillow on your leg and he/she didn't realize

3.) FA require you to close the shades while you wants to enjoy the scenery.

4.) The guy sitting next to you went to bathroom frequently.

5.) baby crying

What's yours?
Mike

Assuming we are talking non-stop, using the tool listed by RW774477:

ATL-CPT: 8105 (the flight to JNB stops in capetown)
EWR-HGK: 8065
JFK-NRT: 6768

So, Atlanta to Capetown actually beats Continentals flight by 40 miles, but I had always heard that the Continental flight was the longest. The tool does say it is not totally accurate though.

I'm pretty sure ATL-JNB is non-stop, isn't it? Or, if it isn't, doesn't it stop in Cape Verde? The only thing I know is that SAA's CPT-ATL flight stops at FLL, originally a fuel stop, but now SAA's third US destination. I thought ATL-JNB and back was NS.

UA/CO both claims that New York-Hong Kong is the longest route in the world.

UA's JFK-HKG flight is opb 744, not 772.

I believe that ATL-JNB is the longest if measured as a great circle distance as the calculators do. Since EWR-HKG is not flown on a great circle course (but is flown via one of the four Polar routes) the actual distance traveled is greater than ATL-JNB. I'm sure that ATL-JNB is not always flown as a true great circle distance, but the deviation from the great circle distance is less than it is for EWR-HKG.

To answer Mah4546's question :

On Mon, We, Fri, Sun SA 212 ATL/JNB is non stop.
On Tue, Thu, Sat SA 210 ATL/JNB has one stop in CPT.

The outbound flight (JNB/ATL) SA 209 has 2 stops and SA 211 1 stop - reason being hot and high conditions in JNB.

Tim
