To the mods: please move this thread to non-av if appropriate. I don't really mind if this is discussed in a non-av manner.

Yesterday I got across this fascinating piece about noise complaints at BSL in my local newspaper, but this Google translation should do the trick.

In short - last year,

- 28'517 complaints reached the BSL airport in total, from 444 different people,

among them,

- 23'749 complaints came from six different people,
- 20'020 complaints came from three different people,
- 11'125 complaints came from a single person.

While I do agree that a proper aircraft must make one hell of a noise and that any newer engine than the JT3D should be outlawed Big grin , I also understand bans on night flights to protect inhabitants. But this... WTF?

Someone has way too much time on their hands! That's an average of just over 30 complaints every single day of the year.

I'm tired of the A vs. B sniping. Neither make planes that shed wings randomly!

I seem to recall a similar situation at AMS.

In that instance, those complaining the most lived about 30 miles away.

Does anybody know if the typical noise complaint is e-mailed, or do they use a form on the airport website?

Well, instead of complaining, one could earn some money and move elsewhere - a win-win situation...

Which reminds me of tinnitus patients. The loudness of the sounds does not correlate with the suffering.

If those people just find themselves a job, they wouldn't even have time to file this amount of complaints.....
In AMS we had the same issue a couple of years ago, and often the people who complain the most, moved in fairly recently and knew that an airport was nearby OR WORSE.....WORK AT THE AIRPORT....

I wonder how many people were complaining when the JT3D and JT8D engines were still common... I remember visiting ZRH once in the mid-1990ies, and the DC-9s were loud. Now, those 320 are really quiet in comparison.

20000 is nothing, Fraport received, when the new runway was in planning 10 times that much or even more from a single person.

These complaints are computer generated, actually the as...le, sorry the guy who wrote this program actually lives in my town and is a big campainer against Fraport in particular and airports in general.

Actually, he makes a living out of this idiocy. It's like a religion, nothing that arguments caqn do about,
