LAN Chile applied yesterday (17/09/2012) before the Brazilian ANAC for the following flights to be started effective 21/01/2013:
LA792 763 daily SCL 1550 2100 GIG 2245 0435+1 MIA
LA793 763 daily MIA 1925 0705+1 GIG 0915+1 1320+1 SCL
LAN has fifth freedom rights guaranteed for the service. The filing contained time zones errorss for the departure and arrival times at MIA, which I corrected for the purpose of this thread.

Quoting jfk777 (Reply 1): Does thos mean TAM stops flying Miami to RIO or does LATAM now have 2 Miami to Rio flights ?
It's not clear yet, but it really seems that TAM will stop flying GIG-MIA. TAM originally wanted to increase flights to JFK, CDG and FRA from GIG, but plans were about to be put on hold with the decision to park TAM's 763, which have old and outdated interiors.

Quoting JaxMan19 (Reply 5): How many flights does LA have from MIA now? I remember passing by the terminal last month and I see 3-4 LAN aircraft there..
LAN has a kinds of flights to Miami kind of like Northwest did to Amsterdam or Narita. LAN flies nonstop 767 daily and double daily from Gyaquil, Lima, Santiago, Buenos Aires and one A320 from Bogota. LAN is one of Miami's larger airlines especially now with TAM which will soon have a 77W from GRU to MIA.

LA just increased frequencies into MIA this week. The SCL-MIA route now operates 2x daily, the LIM-MIA route operates 2x daily and will increase to 17x weekly soon, the SCL-CUN-MIA and SCL-PUJ-MIA routes both operate twice weekly. LA will also increase frequencies on the SCL-MIA, SCL-CUN-MIA and SCL-PUJ-MIA routes starting in January.

Wow, Besides Australia, which is one country on a continent, what other continent has it's air service so dominated by one carrier? Can any other one carrier compete with the rapidly growing 800 pound gorilla in South America that is LATAM?
Next Flights: AS PDX-SEA-KOA on DH4/738 in F, HA KOA-OGG on 717 in Y, AS OGG-PDX on 738 in F

You are overlooking AviancaTaca. Colombia is the 2nd largest market in South America after Brazil.

Interesting. And it seems Latam focus to further increase GIG as a hub is a fact.
With MVD, some LIM and now a better SCL for connections (plus domestic route to GYN) they are looking to build up !
Now the big question is if JJ will deploy their A332's in a route to Europe, where it seems they got benefits... Also, i would not be surprised if LA assumes GRU-MAD and opens LIM-GIG-MAD.
New York + Rio de Janeiro = One of the best combinations !

As far as I understood, TAM will rather deploy their 332s in selected routes linking Brazil and the USA. Thus, the 332 will replace the 767 fleet in such segments.

Quoting SJOtoLIR (Reply 7): The intended plans consisted on JJ upgrading the MIA-GIG service to 332.

Yes, but now there is a new fact, which is LAN flying GIG-MIA for TAM, which will be able to redeploy the 332s that replaced the 767s.
