Looks like there is a new UA commercial out called "Just the beginning" I think I like the Olympic ones a bit better but kind of a neat departure from what UA and CO used to do for advertising.

"It's just the beginning of what's to come" - that's precisely the sort of message I wanted!!! As I said in the website update thread, they had to be careful: if the ad tried to suggest that everything was fine and dandy and rainbows and unicorns then it would fall flat on its face because it would appear hollow. I said that instead they needed something that generated excitement about the work in progress.

While the add itself isn't anywhere near as good as Keep Climbing, I think they definitely got the fundamental message right. Good job UA!

It's not bad. I'm not crazy about the fact that it's 20 seconds into the 30-second ad before you start hearing "Rhapsody in Blue" and have any idea that they're talking about United, but I like the "this is just the beginning" tag line. Definitely allows for the capacity to expand and go in lots of different directions as various improvements roll out.

Airline advertising is all about the emotion and excitement of taking to the skies even if the reality isn't as pleasant. Let's tug at the heartstrings, let's get me excited about seeing the world, make me want to get onboard a United flight RIGHT NOW! This ad is a pretty good start.

Really? I'm great with the "what's to come message" it is what everyone needs to hear. But it looks like a clip from "the hub" vs something more emotional. It doesn't even seem like a McGary Bowen ad to me. Perhaps just a teaser ad for now.

I want them to really succeed - good luck UA!

Agree with comments above, but this ad is amateur hour compared to Delta's Keep Climbing campaign -- which accomplishes a similar message (it's a work in progress) but does it in a much more empathetic way.

BTW that's the 787 they featured in the commerical. If you take a look at the video of the unveiling of the UA 787, they open the hangar door slowly and play Rhapsody in Blue in the background. I had no idea what the point of it was until this commercial.

It is a 777, I can tell by the APU intake at the end

Are you talking about the part of just the undercarriage as the doors open? The tail is a 777 at the end.

Yes I was referring to the beginning with the undercarraige and the doors opening. You are correct, the tail does point to a 777.

Not a bad commercial, but I'm looking forward to the "what's to come" part. You can do better, United!

Its a good start you grumpy people!    I love the music which hails back to the best of the sUA advert campaigns. If they can get their labor issues sorted, things could really take off.

I watched that ad twice and I am still thinking: Huh? What? Come to think of it, how many airline commercials do you ever see? I used to see one for AA every few months and that is all I can remember. At least in the past several years.

A long list of stale RTBs (Reasons To Believe) -- a few added destinations blah blah seats blah blah blah app blah blah. A list of features cobbled together with an inspiring soundtrak does not build a mega brand. It says you don't have a clear positioning for your brand. Sure every brand can tout their features, but features have to ladder up to some bigger end benefit for the consumer -- and I guess we gotta wait for it, because right now what their offering up to the consumer is a whole lot of yawn. No doubt that the people who follow these forums are titillated, but that's not United's intended target audience. Good production and music, but at heart, there is no there there.

I think its okay and thats about it, simple and to the point.

I hope that the next one plays on the 787 and tells the public that UA will be the first US carrier flying it blah, blah blah......with of course a shed load of Rhapsody in Blue thrown in!

I see Delta commercials often and, pretty much, everywhere I travel. Occasionally I may see one of their commercials twice in one day.

Delta's current campaign is brilliant and will be hard to beat. If all of the upcoming commercials for the new UA are going to be similar to the "Just the Beginning" commercial, I don't think it's going to be better, or even on the same level, as Delta's current campaign. The commercial relies to heavily on the music (my assumption is that they are trying to make people have memories of the "good ol' days" with the music) and they do not visually reinforce anything that the speaker is talking about. I personally think the "Just the Beginning" commercial should have been more like Delta's "Atlanta Anthem" ...the commercial they used coming out of BK.

It's a very boring commercial and it's time for UA to move past the "begining". They've been using that "it's only the begining" crux for far too long to mask their poor service and somewhat mismanaged merger. Try again UA.

All hangar doors open slowly to prevent damage to aircraft. This door could very well be in either IAH or ORD.

I'm not convinced its a 787.

That's exactly the problem. Every time I see the globe, I immediately think Continental. Then I realize it's United. I'm sure I'm not alone. United definitely has an identity crisis which needs to be addressed.

Naaah if they go back now and undress out of the globe and redress back into the tulip it will only make the airline seem very unsure of itself in the eyes of the public. Better to keep moving forward! And I hardly would call this an identity crisis.

Wasn't it mentioned that a new logo is "in the works" but just TBA? Anyway, better to unify all branding now then worry about a new logo for the merged company later after all the big stuff is sorted out.

Definitely a 777. This would have been a perfect spot to announce a new livery, with a sneak peak of a new tail design. Oh well.

Agree 100%. Living in NYC I see Delta ads about 2 to 4 times per day. And they're strong communications. Being a New Yorker I especially connect with the one they run locally (see link below). It speaks directly to me and it gives me an emotional connection with the airline, something that United's new commercial doesn't. Check it out and maybe you'll see the sweeping difference between the strength of Delta's martketing department vs. the bland one over at United.
