Air France will be gone, Wizz steps in and will be the only one to combat JAT. Good news for the Balkans, a cheap option to Paris, with modern A320's compared to JAT's old 733's.

Just 24 hours after it was revealed that Air France will be suspending its flights from Paris to Belgrade next summer, the low cost Wizz Air has announced its launch of the route. Flights from Belgrade to Beauvais Airport will be inaugurated on June 1, 2013 and will operate three times per week, every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Wizz Air is planning a major expansion throughout the EX-YU region this winter with a new base to open in Skopje and new flights to be launched to both Ljubljana and Belgrade. So far, over the next year, a total of thirteen new destinations will be introduced in the region by the no frills airline

Jat's B733s are old but they have still a lot of cycles left on them and soon all of their cabins will be refurbished. But I guess you are an expert since you are their frequent client.

Air France stated that they will be returning, they hope by 2014. Their office will remain open and they will most likely keep their codershare with Jat Airways. On top of it all, Jat will be adding a second daily rotation between the two cities.

It is Jat and not JAT.

Why are they leaving if they hope to come back?? Shortage of planes? Isnt it expensive to keep the office open for a year?

Something that maybe can't be said for some of the staff. Although Wizzair's A320 are massivly superior aircraft compared to Jat, the cost of flying a 23year old 737-300 could be comparaitly lower due to the fact that the planes have well and truly been paid for.
Joking aside it's great for Jat to have the route to themselves. The Wizzair flight is a great news for Belgrade but the market is different. Beauvais airport is one of those very far away airports that so many people loathe.

Analysing the recient dropping of Belgrade by BA/CSA/AF shows that the market there is changing. What is positive is that Wizzair are around to fill in some gaps. 10years ago there wouldn't have been anybody to jump in.

Probably less expensive than loosing money everyday on a flight. Also if they can use a codeshare with Jat they will have a 'presence'. It's a shame that BA can't consider doing this with the Jat flights to Heathrow.

I dream of a time when Belgrade has 3/4 Wizzair aircraft and then some competition from the likes of Easyjet. That will really liven up the aviation market in Serbia.

Patience my friend, patience.... Wizzair is really focusing on the Balkans it seems. Lets see what 2013 and 2014 bring. 13 new routes already announced for 2013.

Because of their cost structure. They had very healthy loads but even if they charged well over €200 for a return flight they could not make enough cash.

Jat Airways has an interline agreement with Virgin Atlantic.

Well CSA withdrew completely from ex-Yugoslavia and Air France is reducing ZAG and LJU. Both airlines left because of their bad situation at home. When CSA flew into BEG they had good loads, the yields were the problem.

This will not be the first time Jat Airways will compete with Wizz Air. Jat has been recording impressive passenger growth. This August alone their passenger numbers rose by 19%. I doubt Wizz Air is a problem.

You are right, they both serve different markets.
