Air Asia is close to placing an order for 100 additional A320s which would be a mix of ceos and neos.

AirAsia is close to placing an order for 100 Airbus aircraft to aid its international expansion.

A plan to acquire the additional aircraft will be submitted to its board in about two weeks, says group chief executive Tony Fernandes.

Their expansion rate is quite amazing, but does seem to be well controlled. I flew them a couple of times in March and I was very impressed with their efficiency and service.

Yes , this "new news" is just that it is going to the BoD for approval.

Yes, Airbus already said that Air Asia would be the first to receive them.

They have currently ordered a total of 375 A320s (including 200 neos ordered at Paris last year).

So much for the C-Series interest, guess it was just to get the pricing they wanted from Airbus.

I really hope that Air Asia orders many A321NEOs as part of this mega order as this aircraft operating economics on high volume medium haul routes is quite exceptional as you gain approximately 20% more capacity at only 7% higher operational costs !

The A321NEO can easily operate routes such as KUL-BOM, KUL-PEK, KUL-PVG and KUL-DEL nonstop without any payload restrictions + can be used on routes which are currently seeing very high S/F on the A320s.
