"water Able" Landing Gear?

A too high cost and a percentage-wise unlikely event are certainly the reasons why jet manufacturers do not offer the option of an additionnal landing gear capable of landing the plane on water..?

Anyone knows if this idea has ever been examined ?

Weight would also be a consideration. Plus as you said, the option would practicaly never be used.

The Rooskies have come the closest, as evidenced by these photos. While these craft are made for high-speed trips across the Black Sea, one can imagine the rather un-aerodynamic effects of similar designs (planes) should they get airborne. (What a drag--literally)

Notwithstanding the technical and ecomonic factors involved, but how'd you like to have the job in the airline's marketing department trying to figure out ways to convince passengers to get onboard these things?  Smile
