Anyone know what a Transaero 747 is doing at MLB? It's been there for over 3 weeks I believe. I know they do charters, but I wouldn't think they sit there for a long time. Great view every time I fly out or even return a rental.

There were two Transaero 747's at MLB earlier this year as well. One left in late February I believe with one remaining the last time I was there in early March. I knew they were getting some type of work but didn't know what kind.

I was just in MLB last week and got the latest story from the people doing the work. One a/c is undergoing interior modifications and will be delivered to Transaero end of year---it will be ready before the end of the year but Transaero wants it to come into service after the first of the year. The other a/c is quite interesting. It has had its engines removed and they have been shipped to MHV. There they will be attached to another 747 which is scheduled to be scrapped and will make one last flight for this doomed a/c to RME. When the a/c lands in RME the engines will be removed and then shipped back to MLB and that a/c will be scrapped in RME. When the engines get back to RME they will be reattached and this Tranasero a/c will be delivered as soon as possible. Bottom line is both 747-400's now in MLB will soon be flying for Transaero.

I can confirm what n471wn said regarding the 744's sitting. EI-XLO is sitting on the SE side of the airport while the other one (EI-XLZ) is at MidAir's hangar getting worked on. EI-XLO used to be sitting on the west side of the pax terminal before they moved her to where she sits now.

I wanted to head over to MLB after the Cocoa Air Show practice last Friday but it was raining and dreary just to see if there were any Transaero 747s there plus other things.
Are all of those UH-1 Huey choppers that look like they are rotting away still sitting on the west side of the terminal too? there were 50 or so there when I was there in March 2011 to check out the AN-225. Anyone know the story on them?

Sadly I did not notice but I think I would have noticed 50 so not sure that many are still there.

they were parked close to the fence along that access road that the terminal is on. They were parked in front of the Canberra that has been sitting there for years.

Can you answer this MCOflyer?
My guess its EI-XLZ. EI-XLO was still there this morning. Flight aware shows zip. I gotta a question: Who's the owner of the white airbus or Boeing parked at the domestic gates?? flight aware shows nothing.
Edit: Looks the temp registration for EI-XLZ is N747ZA while EI-XLO still shows its current registration on the tail. I'll be going past there tomorrow. I'll see if they have moved XLO to the Midair hangar.

It is this a/c which has apparently now gone to RME per an atdb.org update in the last several days....

B767-200(ER) N774WD has been ferried there recently, supposed to be for Presidential Airways.

Thats what I saw. I appreciate the information you guys have given. MLB seems to be a local spottters paradise. Lets not forget the ATI DC8's that we regularly see coming out of KCOF.

EI-XLO is still parked on the SE side of the airport right by the customs building.

And is it the only 747 now at the airport?
Good question. I expect it to be moved if EI-XLZ is not comming back from Midair's RME facility.

Aircraft EI-XLN is sitting on the east side of the MLB pax terminal.
It came directly from Russia, it has not moved since it arrived.
Once the aircraft (N747KD) is sent out XLN will be moved over to the tent.

This A/C has the EI- registration number covered up with N747KD.
This jet came in from Narita Japan on 15AUG
This A/C had the engines removed, sent out west to another B744 that B744 was then flown to RME where it will be scrapped for parts.
Those engines are now back in MLB and are being re-attached again to N747KD.
My guess is this A/C is being modified and then delivered to Transaero by or near the end of the year (maybe earlier.)

Thanks and that was my understanding as well but I belive N747KD has now left MLB and is infact at RME...
