INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT IS THIS REPORT?
This compares what is for sale THIS WEEK for the stated period versus what was for sale LAST WEEK...It does NOT compare to last year or now (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED).

HOW DO I READ IT?
XXX-YYY DEC 4>5 JAN 4>5 ; means that the listed airline changed the frequency between the two airports to add from 4 to 5 roundtrips in December and January. No other months were changed. I only list one direction, although it is possible the listed change is only one way. It is too difficult to average the two directions. I assume the change is roundtrip and that is most often the case.

HOW ARE THE DAILY DEPARTURES CALCULATED?
This report uses total operations for the month listed, divided over the days in the month.

WHAT ARE THE FRACTIONAL FLIGHTS?
Non-daily operations create fractional weekly service. In most cases flights are rounded, but in the case of international service or markets with low frequency, fractions are shown. If a flight operated 5 days out of 7, it would show 0.8 flights.

WHY ARE THERE WEIRD FREQUENCIES IN FAR AWAY MONTHS FOR LCCs?
Most airlines publish schedules 11 months in advance. This report covers the next 9 months. That avoids seeing schedules as they are loaded. Several LCCs load their schedules less than 9 months into the future. Their schedules may also end mid-month. If B6 loads their schedule until Jan15, all flights in Janaury will show half frequency because of the way the report is created.

WHY IS A WHOLE AIRLINE'S SCHEDULE SHOWN AS CHANGING FOR A FUTURE MONTH?
Similarly to the previous question, some airlines load their schedule from nothing inside the 9 month window of this report. When their schedule is extended it will show as new service because there was no previous schedule to compare to. In some instances I will show a more valid comparison against another period.

THOSE FLIGHTS AREN'T DELTA, THEY ARE PINNACLE
This report only shows the marketing code. It is too complicated to show all the operators.

THE FREQUENCIES MAY HAVE CHANGED AS YOU SHOW, BUT THE SEATS DIDNT CHANGE BECAUSE OF EQUIPMENT SWAPS
That is a natural weakness of a frequency based report, but it provides something to discuss below.

THE FREQUENCY DOESN'T SHOW A CHANGE, E.G. 4>4
This happens as a result of rounding. There is a change in service that is large enough to be listed, but through rounding it does not appear.

I guess that will slow everyone down on the CLE closure bandwagon. Nice add of 5-6 flights per day in a slower season.

Interesting to see the 4x daily DEN>CLE. It was that when UA and CO were separate and it took a nudge from Frontier to get back to that level.

Interesting AA said all the LAX AE flying would remain the same following Skywest deal.

Obviously had a change in heart and planning to trim a bit (and save $$ I presume).

Obviously had a change in heart and planning to trim a bit (and save $$ I presume).

At Fresno flights will shift from the current 2 CR7s/3 ERDs down to just 3 OO CRJs.

Besides available seats, the earliest/latest flight schedules are disappearing impacting AA connection schedules for local travel.

Currently the first Eagle flight is a CR7 that leaves FAT at 5:55AM allowing for early connections out of LAX. That will be replaced by a first flight south on OO leaving FAT at 8AM.

Likewise, the last Eagle inbound to FAT currently leaving LAX at 9:45pm will be replaced by an OO flight leaving LAX at 8PM. The current last flight time has allowed for connections using end-of-business day flights out of the east coast. Also helps with passengers on delayed flights by providing a late alternative.

I know some business travellers will not be happy losing those earlier/later flights.

This route is a seasonal route for Volaris. Only operates during high season and holidays. But knowing Y4 next week we may have something different. You can also see OAK-MEX flying that wont be happening is shifting over to OAK-GDL.

Its going to be interesting to watch this one after WN inaugurates non-stop service effective Jan 6, 2013. DL on a E70, AA on a CR7 or a WN on a 73X. Hard decision.

WN also announced BNA-EWR which if memory serves me is to begin in mid to late March 2013.

No plans for any major draw down nor a drawn away commitment form it's LAX hub (no quotation marks), simply seeing some scheduling snafus during the transition, as we saw with the MIA transition from ATR to ERJs that even removed MIAEYW completely from booking systems for a while.

Have you ever tried to book a WN/Y4 combination ticket? If you're lucky enough to create an itinerary involving both carriers that prices, it's either horribly uncompetitive versus other single carriers, 2 stops and 10+ hours, or so cheap it couldn't possibly be worth any carrier's time. WN can barely get its FL cities online, let alone Y4. It's pretty much a codeshare in name only; even WS hightailed it out of there as soon as possible.

DL's shifting the capacity (and then some) to MSP. It makes sense -- MSP offers greater connectivity and more frequent flights to the core DL network. Connecting in SLC is advantageous only for a handful of small, western markets (the larger markets have direct service and aren't pumping any significant traffic through SLC). Slapping the DL code on AS flights will toss a few bucks toward DL's way, but as the two don't share revenues, DL would prefer to keep its passengers on DL metal.
