Where will AF fly its 787s?
Will they replace the A332s?
Yes, they will, according to what AF stated at the time when the order was placed.
789s may also replace some 77E/343 on some routes where a downgauge would be needed in view of Gulf carriers competition...
Should EY forge ahead with AF and join ST, such downgauges would be even more logical: low-yield traffic on 388s via AUH, higher-yield traffic on smaller frames flying nonstop (and who knows, with no Y, only Y+, J and possibly F classes).

Someone told me that if DL cuts the CVG-CDG route, an AF 787 may take this per contract with P&G. But that's currently a rumor, but it makes sense, I think.
The 787 will be a good candidate for any current 330/340 destinations, so a lot of Africa to begin with.
Considering the low operating costs of this new birds, I'm curious to see if AF will take over some of the current DL 767 operated North America destinations (ORD, SEA?)....

Heard that too... let's see what happens but it makes sense indeed...

Well, it would be 1. AF making a come back on the route, once operated by the A340, and 2. very unlikely imo. I could see a DL 757 taking over if anything were to change, assuming it has the range.

They just are giving up on ORD this season, so I wouldnt see them taking it back full term in the near future
I think ORD has been (sort of) established by being AF during the summer season and DL during the winter season, with A340 and 767, respectively. A 787 year round, maybe.....

I don't think the 757 has the range for it without taking a weight penalty to save fuel.

Great Circle puts CVG-CDG at 4155 nm, which is just outside of the 752 + winglets posted range of 4100 nm.

my understanding is that was the idea the last year or so, however after this summer season, DL is supposed to operate the route year round now. AF is laying off all their ORD based staff at the end of this month where previously they had them work the KLM flight only in the AF off season.

That's my point. Say DL doesn't want to put 767 service on this route anymore (they have to) they would have to slash the route completely, which as I stated, under the contract with P&G, someone would have to fulfill this service, which I'm guessing would be AF on a 787.
But As far as the future looks, DL is gonna stay on this route....that is, until I see the schedule posted for next year.

So this catastrophe seems to be confirmed
Actually, it's been updated where AF will now operate again for S13. I was advised last Friday by DL. A 787 would be perfect on the ORD route.

Thats rough, Air France had their staff train their replacements and laid them off? Such a shame.
