If you have frequent flyer miles, it only takes like 15,000 to upgrade. I would do that. Or you can try to be upgraded, try a flight that's not to full and see if you can be upgraded from there.

OK - I'm pretty new to airliners.net but I've been into aviation for 10 yesrs, seriously for the last three, and almost every single thing that I post is either scoffed at or told me that it's been done by people before. What does it take to be accepted here? I mean, you try to ask a simple question like "What is your favorite Boeing Aircraft" and people rip you apart for it. I mean, we all love aviation, so why can't we just answer people's questions in a mature fashion and not have to go throught the charade of deleting people's posts because of a question like Airbus vs. Boeing. It seems like what people really want to know is curtailed by people who think they own the place because they've seen the questions before, and therefore, they are delated or the people are berated and chastised. OK, well, there ARE going to be new people to this forum, and they ARE going to ask some questions people might consider simplistic or elemental, like what's your favorite Boeing airplane. I mean, this is a forum. Let people find out the stuff they need to know without it being made fun of or erased.

Fly a cheap airline. I'm flying London to Beirut in the morning (and return in a week's time) in Business Class on Malev Hungarian Airlines for £699, about £100 more than most airlines Economy, and about half the Business Class fare on Middle East Airlines or British Airways. From Athens to JFK, consider Malev, LOT, CSA, Tarom, even Olympic. They're all good. Maybe not like Virgin or someone but a hell of a lot better than Virgin / BA / OA's Economy service and seating. Enjoy the trip.
fly Saha Air 707s daily from Tehran's downtown Mehrabad to Mashhad, Kish Island and Ahwaz

I flew AS from SEA to YVR last week, and I got the upgrade for only $50. The secret is asking at the counter (or using the e-check-in kiosks) and being there EARLY.
