Good evening everyone!
It seems that a new European airline is in the making. Let's see how successful this ends up being.
"According to the estimates of experts, tourists using Air Lituanica would spend LTL 36.2 million (EUR 10.5 million) in Vilnius and Kaunas every year. The expected annual passenger volume accounts for 125,000. During the first year of operation, we plan to offer flights to 6 airports – in Amsterdam, Brussels, Kiev, London, Moscow and Palanga. After a year of operation, 6 new directions would be launched: to Stockholm, Munich, Berlin, St Petersburg, Hamburg and Tbilisi. While in 2015 a flight to Istanbul would be added," the Vilnius mayor said, presenting the project.
This proposal is backed by Vilnius City Municipality (34%) while 17% of the shares belong to Lithuania based companies and 49% belong to a strategic investor.
It will be interesting to see how this works out. Personally I think this might actually materialize because the project is backed by the government. Now, just because it might actually happen doesn't mean it will survive, especially when taking into consideration that the Lithuanian market is dominated by Ryanair and Wizz Air.
