Hawaiian Airlines announced that due to strong demand on it's impending HNL-AKL-HNL services, they will utilize the A330 aircraft instead of the previously announced B767 on the route.
The new service from HNL to AKL will commence on March 13, 2013 and will be operating 3 times weekly. The switch to the A330 will add 30 more economy seats to the route per flight.

Yup. Looking forward to this route!
In addition to what HALFA pointed out, MNL is going A330 as well starting November 4th thru April 1st, I want to say.

Looking forward to seeing HA more frequently and welcome back the A330 frequently at AKL, but just wish the service into AKL arrived to enable same day connections options to most/all New Zealand destinations.

So which city is losing A330 service? Just curious.
No one will lose A330 service. HA will take delivery of 5 new A330's in 2013. One of them will be dedicated to the AKL route which commences in March of 2013. 3 767's will be leaving next year, and 3 of the new A330's will be introduced on current 767 routes, leaving one more frame for either the KOA-HND route that HA has petitioned for, or an unannounced new destination.

The AKL route won't pull an Airbus from a current city, however the MNL flights starting in November do mean that the SAN flights go back to 767's for now. I believe the SAN & MNL flights swap aircraft types in the spring and fall now.

One smooth landing is skill. Two in a row is luck. Three in a row and someone is lying.

Thanks for the clarification. I hadn't heard that MNL was going A330 in November. There will be several upset 767 pilots come November!

So this is a change from the recent "announcement" that both SAN and LAS were changing from daily 'Bus service to split 767/A330 frequencies starting in November?
