According to my local newsweb (www.mbl.is) Air Force One has been in use since December 1972. During that period it has made a total of 444 trips and travelled about 1 million miles. In those 29 years it has served 6 presidents (Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George Bush, Bill Clinton & George W. Bush).

Here is a photo taken today after the last trip (from Waco to San Antonio).

"Sam Two seven thousand" Actually I might have also seen it in HKG calling up "PACCOM 01"..or that might have been something else. Can't remember. Oh well.

Asgeirs - need to make a little correction for you. 27000 flew for 7 presidents NOT 6 as you mentioned. Your news page forgot Richard Nixon whom you may or may not know was president in 1972 before Gerald Ford.

And yes I had the very good fortune to see the plane up close and personal. That year National(original) had the contract for the White House press corps. As a flight attendant for National, I bid and received many of those charters. Because of them I met a Major who was stationed at Homestead Air Force Base where we would leave from when Mr. Nixon was going back to Andrews after visiting Bebe Rebozzo on Key Biscayne(Miami). On one occasion since Mr. Nixon was running late, the crew was granted a short tour of Air Force One. P.S. Also got to date a really good looking AF Major for a while.

767-332ER - the aircraft was already replaced. If I'm not mistaken it was replaced when George Bush was in office by a 747.

You are talking about the 747 that is used on major hauls. This 707 is used here domestically a lot of times, so what will they plan on using domestically?

When he come to New York, for example, he uses his Marine helicopter. I am sure when he goes to the west coast and probably Texas he still uses the 74.
