Mexicana Gets Two A320-231's

Mexicana is increasing its Airbus fleet with two A320's ex Libyan Arab Airlines (EI-TLT, EI-TLG) that were resting at MHV waiting for a new operator:

MSN:415
Aircraft: A320-231
Engine: V2500-A1
Delivery:03/25/94
Registration: N415MX

MSN:428
Aircraft: A320-231
Engine: V2500-A1
Delivery:05/04/94
Registration: N428MX

Both airbus airliners will be replacing the two B727-200's Mexicana had on lease after the leasing agreement expired. Both B722 were not HK3, so Mexicana couldn´t use them for US routes.

With this deliveries, Mexicana confirms its choice for the Airbus A320 family to replace the B722's which have been part of Mexicana for decades.
Mexicana's B722 fleet is one of the youngest flying, since they were adquired from 1979 through 1981, and refurbished in 1991. I know that Mexicana will find buyers for the B722 quite easily (after they decide to retire them all). What do you think?

Thanks for the info, Rojo. I heard MXA had just received a couple of additional A320s, but I didn't know about their registrations, msn's and previous operators.

By the way, do you know anything about MXA's plans to start service to Europe?

So they are getting A319s for sure? I certainly hope so... the A319 is perfect for Mexicana!

It's a new day. Every moment matters. Now, more than ever.

Fernando Flores, CEO of Mexicana Airlines, told the media that they were searching for A319's to replace both B722's after their leasing contracts expire. Finally they got a better deal for the two A320's, and they match perfectly with Mexicanas A320's fleet: they have the V2500-A1 engines and they are both A320-231.
They couldn´t start getting the A319, because we don´t really know Mexicana's future and choosing a type of A319 will make them stick to it in the future (higher prices to get the perfect match). So they got both A320's that match perfectly with the fleet and maybe in the future they can place an A319 order with Airbus.

About Mexicana's Frankfurt route nothing has been said. If they really want to open it this year, they really have to start searching for an airliner capable of doing the route. Hope they start Europe service because I really want to see Mexicana in more continents (trully international).

AeroMexico757

One of my highschool friends finally made it for a position as a flight engineer of the B722. He usually knows what's happening inside Mexicana and AeroMexico. Also the parents of my best friend know Alfonso Pasquel and Fernando Flores very good. So when I go to his house, we end up talking about CINTRA and airlines.

Hello
I hope 727's are kept in Mexicana for cargo, charters, and to expand routes. The 2 727's that just left the company (XA-MXI, XA-MXJ) were the only leased planes, so the other 20 are owned by the company. I hope they are not sold, so the 7 A320's-A319's expected would be in addition, not substitution.
Has anyone heard of 767's comming from Mexicana? if so, please inform... there are many rumors.
Regards.

Thats exactly what I wanted to ask you. Don't you have any inside scoop from your company, MX?

Ghost727: I wish that was the case. It would be awesome if MX started service to both Frankfurt and London. However, London Gatwick would be used since Heathrow would not be a possibility, unless of course something is worked out. But I highly doubt that.

Just stay in Tune 'cause the 67s are comming!!

Latin Plane: We just have to wait the next 5 months!! in all Mexican Airliners... they´re openning flights.. and Aircrafts comming to... So we just have to wait what´s going with MX and the routes to Europe!! MX will give service to Frankfurt and Buenos Aires a Direct Flight and will continue also with the one that Stops in Cancun.. operated by a 757. Abouth Heathrow or Gatwick.. we just have to wait  Smile

yes, but I only hear rumors: one is that we are getting 2 767's from the factory that United didn't want, and other that they are from AM. I don't have any official information.

Thanks for the information, and I hope it's true cause i will become very happy.

Thanks for telling us some of the rumours. I find it funny that Cintra is giving AM's 767 to MX? Why would they do something like that? I don't understand. Is AM planning to drop some routes thereby not needing some 767s?

Hi Ghost77:

It seems a bit odd what I read from your link about the "supposedly new delivered 767-300" that came from Lufthansa. You see, Lufthansa doesn’t operate 767s. Unless they came from Condor, the charter arm of Lufthansa. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be true. In any case, lets hope it’s a sure thing.

I would love to see Mexicana with some 767s. I have a friendo who is pilot for the 757 and I will ask him to see if he can confirm this.

Are the two 767s that Aeromexico is getting from the 200 series or the 300 series?

I would like to see airlines in Mexico operating big airplanes, I´m kind of tired of the DC9 or the F100 (I like this one but I´m tired of not seeing BIG ones).

Regards,

Archie

Hola Ricardo,

Gracias por la informacion.

I am not tired of the small airplanes, I like them but what I meant is what you said, I´m kind of bored from the little airplane. I love to see heavy metal. When I was doing my practical part of my dispatcher course in MEX, I got to see the 767-300 (XA-APB) up close and I just loved it. Of course the 747-400 is more impresive, but I don`t think Aeromexico or Mexicana are planning on getting those any time soon :-(. I do hope Aeromexico will go for a 777 sometime, or even Mexicana, but I think we`ll have to wait a while.

Cuidate y saludos,

Archie

Hello
So I hope rumors are true, and I hope to see a MX 767 soon, as I hope to see Mexican aviation grow, cause we have market to have 777's flying to many parts of Europe, as all flights from Mexico to Europe are overbooked most of the year.
What I've heard about the 767's from AM is that the guaranty for those panes are the 727's from MX and with the split of Cintra, MX is claiming them. I don't know if that's true. Also the version that United is yielding them to MX sounds reliable cause UA is cancelling some orders from Boeing.
Regards.

Thanks to all for the information. Those of us living far from our country are always hungry for anything developing in the Mexican airlines, especially since there is not a lot of information on the Internet about Mexican airlines.

Two questions: Any news on what Cintra is going to do about AM and MX or when they will decide? The delay is just hurting the airlines since they can't develop a long-term strategy. Does anyone know how Líneas Aereas Azteca is doing? Where can I find information about the new airline?

Gracias a todos.

I arrived into MEX on monday morning at about 8:30, and went right past MX's maintenance base, but I did not see any 767s nor anything like it (and that is the place where they should keep them) I'm not saying that MX is not getting those 767's , but I can tell you they were not in their base as of yesterday morning. But I did see an all-white A320 siting besides the MX ramp. I figure it is one of the new ones.
