Garuda Bombardier CRJ 1000 Delivery

Hi everyone.

I heard from a friend of mine, that the first Bombardier CRJ 1000 airframe of Garuda Indonesia, registered PK-GRA has been delivered.
Although rumours about the delivery has been circulating, quick internet searches unfortunately did not come out with much information.

The only article I could find in regards of the delivery was an article from this local aviation website, which was only available in Indonesian (sorry).

According to the article, the airframe, flown out of YUL from October 8th, and landed in CGK this afternoon (10/10/2012). The ferry flight took the route of YUL - KEF - PRG - LCA - MAA - MES - CGK.

The CRJ 1000 is equipped with a 12J/84Y configuration, and will start flying the DPS-SUB route on 16/10/2012.

These are the planned operation schedule of the GA CRJ 1000.

As one of their frequent customers, I would look forward to fly on one of these CRJ 1000 birds.

Yes the photo in that blog article was taken early this morning as it departed Medan to Jakarta for it's final leg of the delivery flight.

This marks Garuda's return to sub-100 seat aircraft... The aircraft will mainly serve routes outside Jakarta. Surabaya, Bandung, and Makassar will likely to have these CRJ1000NGs based there.

I'm trying to guess what was the last sub 100 seat aircraft operated by Garuda - was it the F28 back in the 1980's ?
I have fond memories of those - I think Garuda operated the biggest single F28 fleet in the world at that time.

The first 5 aircraft will be based in Makassar. The next batch will be based in Medan and the third batch will go to Balikpapan. No CRJ bases are planned for Bandung and Surabaya, although the aircraft will obviously pass through Surabaya. Bandung flights will be operated with B738.

I believe it was the F-28s during the 1980s, although I was not certain about this. However they did have a large fleet of the F-28 at one time.

Balikpapan is currently linked to Jakarta, Makassar, Jogjakarta and Singapore. Garuda will soon at a Tarakan flight and within the next year, new routes to Medan, Batam, Surabaya, Manado and Denpasar will be added.

I am certainly looking forward in Balikpapan's GA expansion. I used to fly to Balikpapan quite frequently during the times I was based in the Indonesian Borneo.

The Balikpapan - Surabaya route has started since April 2011 with daily B738. If I remembered correctly They tried a Balikpapan - Denpasar and Manado flights back in 2007, but was suspended shortly due to poor loads. I would look forward how are they going to try this route again, along with the new routes Medan and Batam that you mentioned.

I did not know that linking Balikpapan and Medan or Batam was even on their 'expansion radar' actually. But certainly it will be interesting to see how this route will perform.

The CRJs have been added to develop a number of secondary hubs and part of the setup requires these secondary hubs to be interconnected. A link between Makassar and Balikpapan on the one hand and Medan on the other is therefore planned. Right now, these flights are planned to pass through Batam.

I stand corrected with regard to the Balikpapan Surabaya flights. What I actually meant to say was that a second flight on this route has been recently added. BPN SUB will remain B738 though. On top of the routes mentioned above, a Balikpapan to Banjarmasin connection is also planned. The Balikpapan hub will be fully deployed after Makassar (currently in progress) and Medan (planned for next March) have been established.

A link between Balikpapan and Medan would be good, for your information there's quite a number of people born in North Sumatra moved for work in Borneo, which has Balikpapan as its gateway, and they will come home quite often on festive occasions.

While the CRJ-1000 is perfect for connecting secondary destinations, it is quite surprising for me that GA will be operating it instead of its subsidiary Citilink. On the other hand, GA subsidiary Citilink had been succeding the Balikpapan expansion as well, with 2x daily CGK flight and 3x daily SUB flight the last time I checked.

The route that I posted was based on the article I read, which mentioned the delivery flight took off from YMX (not YUL, sorry for the typo). The article also did not mention a refuel stop in YVR. Guessed with flightaware you had the more accurate information, thanks for filling up the gap.

I just checked that there is a dedicated video for the Garuda Indonesia CRJ 1000 delivery published in Bombardier's youtube channel. A glimpse of the interior is also revealed in the video, although not much. Enjoy!
