TSA Looking To Fire TSA Employees At EWR

I am watching Fox 5 news. TSA are looking to fire 25 workers at EWR.

I will tell you I have flown through EWR my whole life and before the TSA and after they can never seem to hire any quality people. I would say its the pay no doubt but they need to clean house and pay what they need to and get some quality and professional people in there.

I disagree. You cannot lump all TSA employees together. I recall at least one EWR TSA employee who was exceptional to the point I mentioned it to the supervisor and contacted the head of TSA at the airport and mentioned my observation.

Unfortunately, I no longer recall the young lady's name. I watched her take extra care and showing a great deal of empathy with a lady in a wheelchair a few years ago. If all TSA agents performed this way, there would be few complaints!

I have had the opportunity to deal with some exceprional TSA folks, and since I generally "opt out" I have the chance to chat with some of them. They are as different as members of any other occupation.

Now, if we are to consider some of the others, I would have to agree with you.

I'll tell you what needs to happen:

1) Take away the badges.
2) Next time some TSA worker destroys someone's possession in violation of TSA protocol, treat it as a criminal matter. If they open someone's sterile medical supply, that is willful destruction of property and it is a crime. They should be arrested on the spot in front of the passenger and make that example loud and clear.
3) I'd say "get rid of the TSA" but once an agency exists, you'll sooner kill a mythical hydra than kill the agency.

Everyone seems to hate the TSA, we all need to take a step back and realize that like any organization there are bad apples. Being the the TSA is a large and very visible group it may seem that they have more than others. I dont think for 1 second that any organization other the TSA would deliver vastly different results.

I just flew through EWR two weeks ago and to be honest they are overstaffed, but they are horribly inefficient. So I believe they need to step up their productivity and lower the amount of staff.

For anyone who maters I flew out of the c terminal, in the international departures.

I flew out of there yesterday and the security line was backed up nearly all the way to the next set of security gates! Overall, the EWR circus (terminal B bag recheck and terminal A security) was the worst I have seen!

The Terminal A situation for UA at EWR is dreadful. TSA screening takes place in the narrow corridor which connects the main terminal to the gates. Sadly, it was never designed to handle the amount of passengers, carry-on luggage or complexity of security screening now required. The corridor has to handle both outbound passenger traffic heading to the gates (via TSA screening) and passengers exiting the area. It truely is horrendous. The answer to that whole problem would be to switch gates with Delta at Terminal B. The Port Authority has significantly enlarged the screening area leading to the 9 gate Delta satellite and seperated the entrance and exit areas. However, unless Delta is given a really good deal to move to Terminal A, I don't see it happening.

I have never had an unprofessional or unpleasant encounter with a TSA worker. I will say, however, that EWR's security check points are particularly stressful to get through with all the passengers.

That's not gonna happen. No trading of gates, etc. DL got the bonus by being the recipient of the work that was done in the Terminal B domestic arrivals (since them and Alaska are the only domestic airlines at B). because of all the other work being done at Terminal B. (ie: the new BA Club; new arrivals and departures areas; and all of the other work being done at B)

Terminal A needs a new terminal in the worst way (since it is the oldest of the 3). Hopefully once the Freedom Tower gets built, the PA can turn it's attention to the airports. If I recall, there were plans for a new Terminal A (along with a new CTB at LGA).

Back to the original topic: The TSA has its own bad apples, and they are very easy to hate and scapegoat. Some of them bring the negative upon the agency, and when travelers are frustrated with the experience of the security checks, people can just be pissed.

Agreed. The private contractors would be just as bad or worse. Remember Wackenhut......They had criminals working for them.
