Although AF ordered 787s/A350s, will they add more 777s?

Air France have 5 B777-300ERs to be delivered from a previous order.
One is due next year, Two in 2014 and one each in 2015 & 2016.

Are these frames for expansion? AF plans to keep the fleet of B747-400 till 2017...

They still haven't firmed the A350 order, which I wonder is still something to do with the engine choice, or could this happen this week with the A350 FAL inauguration?

They have 25 772 and 2 77Fs IIRC.
But how many 77Ws do they have?

With the delivery of the 787s and A350s AFs 777 fleet will certainly shrink as some of these planes are 772 replacements.

hope so

I'm a huge fan of the 777-300ER...for long-haul, high density routes, I think the 787 and A330 are too small, the 747-800 and A380 too large. 777 perfect size and it can do any mission

This is role the A350 will fill in the future, only more efficiently.

I doubt we'll see any more 777 orders from AF for this generation of aircraft. I do think we could see them ordering an upgraded 777-9X to replace the 747s though.

The problem is that whan the 744s leave the fleet, there will be a huge gap between the 77W and the A388.

Current AF B777 fleet :

37 B777-300ER
25 B777-200ER
2 B77F

+ 5 B777-300ER to be delivered.

They are.

It has indeed something to do with the engine choice, and a dispute with RR about the maintenance agreement for AFI.
Inside rumors say AF is losing patience with RR and could simly cancel its A350 order....

In regards to the 777's, I remember reading this of late:

"Their entire fleet of Boeing 777′s are to be to refurbished where the airline will spend “hundreds of millions of euros” according to Air France’s CEO Alexandre de Juniac.

The airline is aiming to improve its onboard product and service to make it “world-class standard” to compete with Gulf and Asian airlines

Air France is aiming to have the refurbishment complete by 2015, which will refit 19 Boeing 777-300ER’s and 25 Boeing 777-200. Additionally, an additional refurbishment of 10aircraft in the A380 fleet commence in 2015."

source: http://boardingarea.com/blogs/ghetto...o-revamp-its-b777-and-a380-fleets/

I would be surprised if they ordered more since they are breathing new life into the ones they have. However, if A350's keep getting pushed back or the speculated engine problem is not resolved, I suspect they might order a few more (maybe 5-10) as a stop gap before (hopefully) a 777-9X order.

Kind Regards,

Team

They could order 787-10s instead...

Talking about refurbishment, do you know if AF are going back to 3-3-3 seating in Y?

No. Y will remain 3-4-3 in the B77W and there is no reason to change it.
The refurbishment concerns the new Business Class (with a new 1 x 2 x 1 config) and the new First Class.

So, you're a fan of the 777, but not of the 10-abreast it allows and is a big part of its success ?

The 777 is also successful for BA, AC, UA, DL, NH, JL and other operators, but with much more civilized 9-abreast seating. (JL and NH use the cramped 10-abreast configuration only for shorthaul domestic non-ER 777s. Their longhaul 77Ws have among the lowest-density seating of any 777 operators).
