SpiceJet currently operates 29 B738 and 6 B739ER(wiki). The likely order size of 30-40 suggests prudent planning as most Indian airlines are not making money.

Chennai headquartered low-cost airline SpiceJet is in advanced discussions to order 30-40 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, the Centre for Asia-Pacific Aviation (CAPA) has said.

a chaotic airline imo... I would never fly them again. But would be good to see some competition towards Indigo and see how they respond. Does Spice (like indigo) have plans for international operations ?

Why? They are a current B-737NG operator, and will continue to fly them through the end of this decade. They are just planning on the replacement of the NGs later. My guess is none of the B-737MAXs can be delivered before about 2019, or so.

What would you have suggested they order? The A-320NEO?

Look at the state of Aviation currently.......How many of this order are replacements & what time frame.......
Its not about some stupid A v/s B logic but rather about the sustainability of an operator depending on the existing market.

Think of the brighter side!
