Both AK/KL and LH have posted better than expected results for the 3rd quarter of 2012, with operating profits over €500M. See

This is the sort of news - and thread - people aren't interested in : "What ? Some good news from AF without an order for some extra 77ws or 787s? Are you out of your minds ? "

Not trying to do that, but I was under the impression that AF/KL wasn't doing that well... is there something hidden in the numbers or did they really do well? (And was it KL keeping AF afloat or is that just a rumor too.)

Good job nevertheless. I didn't think they were doing that well, I've always heard they were bleeding money

Ironically I have never flown a Delta MD-90 :)

From the link :

The French company’s earnings jump may be “a result of the first measures implemented, even before the job-cuts plan, with more flexibility and a wage freeze.”

Is it? This says they've lost $1.2B in the last nine months. Even excluding the restructuring costs it still looks a little grim.

AF-KL did lose over $1B for the nine months ending 30 Sep. However they had a Q3 better than last year. So things are slightly improving, but definitely not satisfactory yet. If I'm not mistaken, AF-KL only had an EBITDAR profit and was not at least operationally profitable. And definitely not profitable at a net level. LH in comparison did report a net profit.

That is also the way I see it. They are starting to turn around the losses, but they are not out of the woods yet. LH is in a better shape with also much more profit then AF-KLM over the last 12 or 24 months.

But I am happy with the message that AF-KLM are starting to get in a better financial shape, because they need it.

..so Merkel, Hollande et. al are just pawns in a media game? All that time spent and it was just a figment of their imagination. Thanks for enlightening us!
