At IAD today, I was observing an ANA 77W coming in from Tokyo, and out of the corner of my eye, I saw an L1011 coming in. It was definitely an L1011, I instantly recognized the back engine. It appeared to be all black, but I couldn't tell. Anybody have anymore info on this?

Well, there are no all black L-1011's and none flew into IAD as far as I can tell from flightaware. Maybe it was a RAF one or possibly a USAF DC-10 you saw? The Sands L-1011 is kind of dark but it has a white top to it, so I don't think that was it.

I'm wondering if it's the RAF L1011 that departed this morning from YYZ? I saw it parked at the north end of the airport yesterday and supposedly it left a few hours ago. Hopefully it comes back sometime soon!

I thought it was a definite L1011, but maybe it was a KC-10.

When you say they, do you mean more than one?

RAF is frequently into IAD, as is the German AirForce. I'm expecting a Christmas Package from them soon!
