I just downloaded the updated AA desktop timetable this morning and noticed that the daily 762 JFK-MIA-JFK is finally gone. This was one of the few routes in the USA where you could still fly on a 762. It's been replaced by one of the ratty 757s. The 762 will be missed!

Damn, almost flew this flight to the Bahamas! Really wish I had. Well, at least we can still fly them to LAX and SFO.

Til the A321's show up 4Q 2013, but there is time to do so.

Not so sure. What you might be seeing in the schedule is just a placeholder.

Had a 762 subbed in for my flight to LIH last month while most of the 75s were down for seat inspections. That was a rare treat.

Back in July of this year I flew on it from MIA to JFK, I was seated in the Business Class Cabin and I had seat 7J. It was really comfy. At JFK upon leaving the plane I stood at the gate to have one last look at it because I knew I would probably not fly on it again. I'm glad I flew on that one. I won't fly on it anymore unless I fly to LAX or SFO with American.

ratty 757s

Please don't call it ratty. The 757 is not that bad. A month ago, I took three flights on those.

You can still fly on the 763 from JFK to MIA and back. The flight that leaves JFK at 530P is a 763 and, coming back, it is the one that leaves MIA early in the morning. All flights from JFK to MIA are narrow bodies, mostly 757s and maybe one 738, except this one.

Even after the first few A321s are delivered end of 2013, there will still be a few 762s around on the JFK-LAX-JFK and JFK-SFO-JFK transcons. It's not from one day to the next day that all JFK-LAX-JFK flights will be A321s, it'll take a while before that happens. Expect to see 762s till at least end of 2014.

Ratty! Ratty! Ratty!

Seriously, I DO like the old F on the AA 757s compared to what's being put in to replace it, but it's still a very old and worn our hard product. And let's not get started on the dispatch reliability of the AA 757 fleet....

As a side note, U S Airways is still using a 762 on some PHL-CLT flights also.

Are you sure? There is currently no 762 service on JFK-MIA-JFK, but according to the PDF timetable, flights AA 443 (JFK-MIA) and AA 1510 (MIA-JFK) go from a 757 to a 762 on November 15th (with service discontinued on Wednesdays), and AA 415 (JFK-MIA) and AA 1046 (MIA-JFK) will be new Saturday-only 762 flights effective November 17th.

It depends on which configuration you get. I think there are five or six cabin layouts in service at the moment. Yesterday, I had to explain to a passenger that, although his aircraft type hadn't changed, the row in which he had purchased a seat assignment no longer existed due to a tail swap.

I appear to have a fan club!

To answer your question, yes I do rake Amtrak - always on the way up to NYC because I need to be in NYC for certain events (family event, business meeting, etc.). But on the way back, I've flown the 762 several times. Much nicer experience than the 757s.
