A few days ago I was tipped off by a friend in ATL that the start up date of JFK-IST would be moved from 24-MAY-13 to 27-APRIL-13. So it's now starting back up about a month earlier than planned which is always good news! it has been loaded in the timetables:
DL 72: Depart JFK @ 1705 and Arrive IST @ 1015 (+1)

Was March 3rd, then the Oct 17 OAG thread it showed pushed to May 24th. Now its I guess back to your April date.
But still almost 2 months passed the original resumption date.
So basically this is another summer Europe tourist service by Delta.

As a DL non-rev wanting to get to and from IST for a cruise, it is frequently cautioned on Deltanet that due to weight restrictions non-revs may not be boarded or downgraded even if seats are available. Is this seasonal or year round?
Anyone have any experience with this? I thought I had better get some ZED tickets to AMS as a back up.

You should not have a problem Eastbound. Westbound it is pushing the range a little bit. I wouldn't expect as big of weight restrictions as SEA-PEK has, but you could see some.
Since ZED tickets are refundable, that's always a good idea.

Nope, missing a zero there....Resumption was supposed to be on March 30, 2013 (the start of the summer schedule), but was pushed back to May 24 about a few weeks ago, and now is being brought forward to 27 April.

I suspect that these dates also need to account for the current throughput on the modifiocations to the 763 fleet including lie flat and the international wi-fi.
