Kenya Airways (KQ) is still evaluating the launch of budget arm Jambo Jet and has recently secured approval for the carrier as a Boeing 737-300 operation.

Jambo Jet, which is slated to operate domestic and regional routes, has been in the pipeline for nearly 18 months.

“We are still doing our homework and don’t want to go ahead and just create a mini Kenya Airways,” KQ COO Mbuvi Ngunze said at World Travel Market in London. “We recently got our air services agreement, but we are not going to start just because [African start-up] FastJet is coming in.”
