This started as a rant in polls/prefs but I figured the question should be posed here.

I was recently slated for the AA/AE flight from MIA-EYW which was initially delayed 5-6 times of 30min-1hr each and eventually cancelled for the night (all remaining flights) where AA chartered a bus to drive the 4hrs (as oppsed to 50 min flight).

Talking with a few of the other 'flight passengers' they had all said the flight is cancelled at least 3 days a week after 3PM. This wasnt even a matter of being irritated about the flight being cancelled as two of them were AA Exec Platinum and still refused to fly anyone else.

How does this happen? Before meeting the people I did, I chalked it up to AA mx being pissed off at the company over the flight and grounding planes which happens but how does AA really get away with this type of service on a route they almost exclusively fly?

No clue but I'd be rather peeved if I was on this flight and it was cancelled with the option of AA busing me down to EYW!!! I live in MKE and every once in a while a flight is cancelled and we get sent on a bus down to ORD which is fine b/c it's a straight shot on the highway but OMG MIA-EYW on a bus .... blah!

American Airlines does not fly between Miami and Key West, nor does American fly between Chicago and Milwaukee.

However American will sell you a seat on a flight between Miami and Key West as well as Chicago and Milwaukee.
The actual flight is done by a subcontractor: Executive Airlines between Miami and Key West, Chautauqua Airlines between Chicago and Milwaukee.

Good judgement comes from experience. Experience comes from surviving bad judgement.

Looking at masFlight for the last couple of months, I don't see it. AA4785 MIA-EYW at 3:10p cancelled twice during September and October. On-time performance looked OK as well. AA4797 MIA-EYW at 17:45 didn't cancel at all in that period. AA4791 cancelled on 9/16, 10/18, 10/19, and 10/21. On-time performance for 4791 is worse than the others. Looks to me like a problem (4791) with on-time arrival performance, but not a large-scale cancellation problem.

Agreed - performance at MQ and OW has held up very well during AA's mainline issues. What you see with OW flights has nothing to do with the AA labor troubles from September.

Actually, it does. Enough with the garbage already. You subcontract out with your flight number, your paint scheme, and connect in your hub, while marketing the flight and connecting the revenue...it is your flight...the good, the bad, the ugly.

Eagle has staffing issues. They can't hire anyone due to the current situation. When delays like this occur at a regional, it is usually maintenance or staffing. perhaps someone at Eagle can enlighten us

I think you're missing the point of this thread my friend. Do you really think the people taking these flights and posting on this board don't realize the logistics of how American Eagle operates with AA under the AMR parent company?

Again - what delays? Current operational data shows plenty of problems at AA mainline but not at MQ or OW. For the period from September 1 through October 31, AA mainline ran 65% operational on-time arrivals (including international operations) versus 85% at MQ and 82% at OW. Not only are OW and MQ far exceeding AA mainline, but they're doing well against other regional peers as well (RP's AA operation ran 75% for comparison).

As a former DBQ Eagle employee, I can definitely sympathize with the Eagle Bus Service that occurs in the winter. I can remember DAYS where we had nothing but buses from DBQ-ORD and back again. INSANE. But, sometimes it's that or figure your own way out. We can't control weather, and do what we can with what we have.

Exactly. That's the risk a company takes when they "partner" up, so choose wisely!

As a fellow pilot and air traffic controller, I can assure you, weather had NOTHING to do with these series of flights being cancelled. They claimed MX and while I dont doubt that, I am venturing out there the MX agreement with whatever you want to call the airline is, is done with AA/AE MX, whom we all know is having contract issues with AA.

Having only been slated on the one flight, I cant speak to the legitimacy, but find no reason to question fellow travellers who say this happens quite often, including bus service. Perhaps they have been some of the most unlucky people around travelling on the dates you mentioned but even having sat at MIA's Gate 60 where all the puddle hoppers depart from, it wasnt even an EYW exclusive problem. Only one flight departed in the 6 hours we sat there. The rest were cancelled (probably 8-10 flights on the Saab340).

My thoughts exactly. AA sells the seat on AE metal calling it an AE flight, and AA does the MX on the planes, I dont care what they call themselves, it is an AA/AE flight.

My $.02

I have no doubt that their flights to EYW get seriously delayed / cancelled far too much. It's like that - from my experience - on their flights to NAS and FPO also.

Saab340???? You mean the ATR-72, no?

Anyways... hopefully these delays / cancellations will be a thing of the past come the middle of this month when they retire the ATRs and go all RJ.
