Maybe now Admiral Akbar will stop his bitching!

On a more serious note, I see this as a positive step forward and wish Qatar a problem free introduction to service.

Is London the first route that will see the B787?

Yes, per QR the 787 will be used on intra-Gulf routes (DOH-DXB-DOH) for crew familiarization before being put on the DOH-LHR-DOH route 'next month'.

Many thanks for sharing this video. But I thought airplane spotting/photography/videoing was strictly taboo in Qatar. Is there some sort of officially recognized aviation enthusiast club over there ?

No just drove to the side of the highway and started filming, it was a 2 minute clip. I don't spot at all. Just happened to be there for this event, so I thought I'd share it.

Qatar is really laid back. Loads of people take pics and videos of the planes in the terminal. It's no big problem.

I think the majority of the enthusiasts round Doha are waiting for the new airport to open and the grand arrival of the A380.

From the HD video provided, you can see an airport vehicle driving the perimeter. I guess they weren't concerned.

Also, who were the two fellas in uniform, were they ramp crew?

I wish U.S. domestic carriers saw the PR value in painting their logos on the belly of planes. Makes it so easy for me to identify incoming transatlantic flights as they contrail high above my home in southern New Hampshire.

The vehicles are actually cars on a road near the perimeter fence. There's construction going on in the area to build a road to the new airport, hence all the barricades and concrete dividers.

The boys in uniform are future QR engineers and pilots from the aviation college.
