Hello
As I know, SAA is flying different types of the 747. They have some -200, -300, -400 and also two or three -SPs in their fleet.
I was wondering whether they have any plans to replace some of the older aircrafts.
Furthermore, does anybody know, which destinations they serve with the 747SP? I would be glad to see one here in Zurich, but we usually get the -200 or the -300.

SAA has retired their two remaining 747SPs. As far as I know they were withdrawn with the arrival of the two ex Swissair 747-300s.
Due to SAAs financial struggles the plans for purchase of further 747-400s and 777-200s has been stalled. I guess you´ll have to enjoy the 747-200s and -300s in Zurich for some time to come!

Hello,
as Jan said, the SP (ZS-SPA) departed from FRA on the 30th early in the morning. It was one of the best days I ever had at FRA. We got to see the SAA 747SP, Nalanji Dreaming on finals as well as Thai "Royal Barge", Air Atlanta Icelandic L1011, some Star Alliance birds and the Tyrolean "SOS Kinderdorf"
you can find some pics of the SAA 747SP here:
SAA 747SP on planepictures.net or on my private "FRA Spotting" website (see profile)
Regards from FRA

btw: the SAA 747SP is a very rare visitor here as well. Didn´t see it for 3 years!
last year we got to see the Ndizani very often, now you can see it at ZRH almost daily. I hope to see it at FRA again next year.
