In China Airlines' (Taiwan) March-October 2000 timetable, there is no indication of service to/from Seoul in the flight schedules...not even as a dot on the route map nor among many interline connecting flights shown. Since TPE-SEL has been for many years, before and since 2000, a reasonably significant intra-Asian city pair, why was the route (apparently) suspended during the 2000 Summer season? How long was the route dormant before and/or after the time period in question?

Only foreign airlines could operate tpe-sel for a while such as SQ TG CX, after Korea open up with mainland China and closed relation with Taiwan (I'm no expert here, so I don't know appropriate word for it). So not only CI didn't have a direct flight, nor KE, OZ, and BR. It took a few more years before direct charter flights began and finally became regular flights.

The cessation of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1992 resulted in each countries' respective airlines withdrawing from all routes that connect the two. Other airlines such as CX, DL and TG still flew between the two countries throughout the 90s.
Then, in 2002, dialogue between the two opened up again and CI and BR were granted the right to resume flights to Korea, strictly on a charter basis at first. Korean carriers were granted the same rights vice-versa. This paved the way for the resumption of scheduled flights circa 2005-6, and today we even have flights going to Taipei's domestic Songshan airport.
CX and TG to this date still maintain daily flights on the TPE-ICN route despite the re-entry of Taiwanese and Korean-based carriers in the market.
