Japanese Star Flyer Inc. has applied with the DOT for authority to offer service to the United States.

Star Flyer states that it intends to pursue charter and scheduled service from various points in Japan to Guam utilizing its fleet of 144 or 150 seat A320 aircraft.

Initially Star plans to commence twice-weekly charter service between Tokyo Haneda and Guam effective April 26, 2013.

Good for them. Wouldn't be surprised to see Kitakyushu-Guam eventually either.

Hope they do well. I'm surprised Japan doesn't have a healthy IT charter flight operation like in Europe. The Japanese love their short break trips and StarFlyer's 320's would be ideal to fly package tourists to sun spots like BKI, DAD, SYX and points in the Philippines for example.

Where might they fly to in the US? NRT/HND-HNL/KOA/LIH? Secondary Japanese markets? KIX? NGO?
What a/c are they going to utilize? I believe I read they were going to purchase A380s. Is this accurate? Do they plan on buying or leasing 787s? This would allow them to fly to a lot more places compared to the A380 which will limit the markets they can enter because of the obvious costs associated with VLAs.

The first post mentions Guam. You might be thinking of Skymark with the A380s
