I do not think it has been commented before:

Jet Airways from 01FEB13 is cancelling Delhi – Milan Malpensa service, as reservation for this route on/after this date is now closed. The airline launched this route on 05DEC10.

Schedule for the existing 5 weekly service as follows:

9W142 DEL1320 – 1800MXP 332 x13
9W141 MXP2125 – 0955+1DEL 332 x13

did not see this one coming.it has been operating for roughly two years but I guess it could not compete with Gulf airlies and their choice of cities in India.

This is no surprise... It's been clear that MXP was on the chopping block for months now.

I am not surprised as well, they were selling a LOT of cheap seats on these flights all the time pretty much every single time I have checked for myself or helped people to get tickets from the South of Switzerland to India. Not much feed on the MXP end and I do not believe Italy is such a huge market from India yet.

Seems MXP has lost a few services lately.

Market not performing or have the other carriers lifted their game to make some other services not viable?

They should fly to Houston Mumbai to IAH or Delhi to IAH

No chance. That is a recipe for more losses with the amount of competition.

Might be best to stick to a few key European cities and look to further boost its Asia-Pacific links.

Italy at the moment is a basket case and Milan (the financial capital) is feeling the heat big time. Several airlines have ceased or reduced MXP flights this year. Also, MXP also serves as the defacto longhaul gateway for Turin- Italy's 3rd largest city which is experiencing major FIAT and government layoffs with the financial crisis.

not making much sense there - really what they should do is join an alliance (not star since the GoI won't let them) but I think they could still do well in oneworld. If they can obtain a slot or two in LHR and start flights to a few more cities, BA and 9W will pretty will have India covered.

Thanks for that info.

Certainly not a great situation to be in.
