Starting on January 22, 2013, LAN Airlines will launch a daily non-stop service between GIG and MIA utilizing the B-767-316ER. This is LAN's first non-stop service between a destination in Brazil and a destination in the U.S. and will operate alongside TAM's daily GIG-MIA service. Thus, LATAM will offer two daily non-stop flights between GIG and MIA!

LA792 GIG 01:10 MIA 07:00 B763 DAILY
LA793 MIA 22:21 GIG 10:01+1 B763 DAILY

TAM's schedule:
JJ8056 GIG 22:28 MIA 04:20+1 A332 DAILY
JJ8057 MIA 20:05 GIG 07:30+1 A332 DAILY

SCL767, in fact the flight will be SCL-GIG-MIA

As we know, LA do not have the rights to do just a GIG-MIA flight

So:

LA792 SCL 1825 GIG 2335 0110 (+1) MIA 0700
LA793 MIA...GIG 1104 SCL 1509 B763

So far JJ MIA-GIG remains on GDS but i do expect it to be removed in favor of GIG-MAD.

SCL-GIG will become 4x daily for the first time.

New York + Rio de Janeiro = One of the best combinations !

LAN will be using Fifth Freedom Rights to operate non-stop between GIG and MIA. LA792 will originate at SCL and LA793 will terminate at SCL. It's fantastic to have a daily B763 non-stop service between SCL and GIG!

SCL-GIG:
LA792 SCL 18:25 GIG 23:35 B763 DAILY
GIG-SCL:
LA793 GIG 11:04 SCL 15:09 B763 DAILY

Probably the aircraft will deployed to other routes except with LA, LP, XL, except EZE.

For this moment, there is not an official announcement about this new route, so the itinerary could change in the next days.

Best Regards,

It has been mentioned several times that LATAM is interested in launching GIG-MAD and LATAM is currently focused on building up the GIG hub. We will just have to wait for the application to be filed with the ANAC. LAN also plans on launching BOG-MAD next year; thus LATAM will eventually operate flights into MAD from BOG, FRA, GIG, GRU, GYE, LIM, and SCL. The competition with IB will only increase next year...

Then JJ would have applied for MADGIG when LA applied for MIAGIG. But it didn't.

The time differences between the two indicate this is complimentary, not supplementary.

With LA's new GIG-MIA service and another frequency from LIM being added, LAN will soon operate 67 weekly flights into MIA on a year-round basis which is a record for LAN at MIA. Thus, LATAM will operate 102 weekly flights into MIA which would make it the largest foreign operator at MIA.

Are they sharing revenue and costs(ala a DL/AF JV), or does LAN have their hand in AA's pocket?

No it is not a JV. American Airlines has ATI with LAN Airlines and LAN Perú which means that they can legally coordinate fares and schedules together.

Does it include flights from Brazil to USA or is it limited to Chile & Peru?

Until there is true open skies between the US and Brazil can JV even happen? I know it's. Coming, but until then is DOT going to allow LATAM and AA a full JV?

It includes all flights operated by LAN Airlines between Chile and the U.S. and all flights operated by LAN Perú between Perú and the U.S. Next year, Colombia and the U.S. will have full Open Skies which makes it logical that LAN Colombia and American Airlines may seek ATI once LAN Colombia becomes a oneworld affiliate carrier.

Just curious, why is it not a TAM flight GIG-MIA? I gather the routing is actually SCL-GIG-MIA but there are other nonstop flights already from SCL to MIA.

And I may be reading some of this wrong but how are feelings on both sides about the new tent they have to live under? LA seems to be the dominant operator (the acquirer if you will, though it is a subsidiary of LATAM like JJ is, correct??) and so how is that perceived by JJ and their staff?

M&A is anything but straightforward esp with equal size parties getting together.

TAM's fleet is maxed out so, in order to expand their GIG-MIA services they needed LAN. In order to fit Brazilian regulations, the flight must originate at SCL. It was convenient for LAN as well since the flight had, as a sideeffect, a new SCL-GIG service offering a new connection between the two cities.

Hopefull LA/LP will add a new LIM-GIG service. That's a missing gap at LATAM's SouthAm network. TA/AV is collecting very good results on the route.

TAM just launched GIG-SCL daily with the A-320. Thus SCL now has three daily non-stop flights to GIG.

I know that. I didn't say TAM, I was talking about LAN. Also LA792/3 will be the sole GIG-SCL service with true business class service.

Is it really maxed out? Didn't TAM just get four 773s? Isn't there more 773s on the way?

TAM is expected to return their older 332s soon due to the expiration of the leasing contracts. If JJ renews these contracts (Those are just rumours. TAM's fleet plan still shows the departure of these older 332) they are expected to boost nondaily longhaul frequencies from GIG such as JFK, FRA and LHR.

Of course it is. 4 77W were received, but 3 763 will be phased out. Daily GIG-MCO was launched with the spare aircraft.

It includes flights from Brazil to the extent they operate as a fifth-freedom. Since this new route is in actuality a SCL-MIA flight with a stop in GIG, in is included. If LAN opened a LAN Brazil (which is essentially what TAM is) and it operated by LAN Brazil GIG-MIA - or even GIG-SCL-MIA - it is not included.

25 incitatus : Aren't there two more 773s coming in 2013? Possibly SCL-GIG-MIA is really only the new owner of TAM trying its own product in the Brazil-US market to
26 C010T3 : Yes, but only in the third quarter.
27 SCL767 : Reservations have opened for both LA792/JJ8216 and LA793/JJ8217! Great news for SCL and GIG pax!
