D-ABXL is being ferried to the USA for scrapping today after 26 years which probably marks a record fpr LH in terms of service years if we exclude the Tante Ju.

According to libhomeradar.org that frame had its last flight on 5th November on the Malpensa route.

That is indeed an old airplane. But their reliability was impressive for the whole 26 years!

Sad to hear it's leaving the fleet 'already'. I didn't have the honour to log her, although I logged her sister, D-ABXU.

Uncomfy? Never had any problems with any LH 737s. Unless you mean those thin new Recaro seats, then I agree.

I photographed her on my June trip to Europe. I knew it would be the last time I saw many of the 733/735 fleet so I snapped every one I could get.

So how many older B737's does LH still have? Last Saturday I flew on a B737-500 which was also looking and feeling old. And it was park as far out as it could be at FRA. Maybe they do not want to show these oldies anymore to the general public? My flight on the oldie was however perfect.

Not sure why you say that. I've been on 40-50 LH 737 flights, and never found them uncomfortable. Their interior is not the best (yes, they are old) but other than that, they are fine for me.

What a shame to see "Neuss" go! I've dispatched that plane many many times at AMS, never got the pleasure to fly on it though. From the interior you wouldn't be able to tell she was this old, and even the exterior and cargo bays looked very good for an airplane this age!

Definitely substandard in the EU, at least.
Great plane, but its time has gone. Also on the environmental side (pollution/noise) I am sure that there are better birds around including its newest derivative , the 737MAX.
And you know, here we care about that

mmmhh, not worse than MD80s.

Ecology must be paid for as well and why waste an aircraft that helps paying for the next generation aircraft.

LH has about 30 A320NEO on order and there will be moe to come, for sure.

2607 from Far Eastern Air Transport is listed as stored in the Philippines (in what condition one can only imagine) and 1874 from China Airlines is listed as stored in Peru. Both planes are now over 40 years old and are the 737-200 model.

My first BAE 146 is sadly scrapped after only just a bit more then ten years of service. Seems those Bae146 dont serve anywhere as long as 737s.

I travelled on a LHR-HAM flight recently with the prospect of having a LH 733 and on the day it was a 735 instead so I was slightly disappointed.

Ps..I remember them when they were new, looking out for the new deliveries. Of course in those days we still had the LH 727s and 732s ....happy days! I like the A320 family, but enjoyed the variety we used to get in those days.

Yes, if memory correct the main landing gear on the NG was lengthened a few inches to increase ground clearance from the engines and reduce the risk of tail strike on rotation with the longer -800/-900 models..

Indeed. Thanks for the info.
Interesting also to compare the figures with LHs early-built 744s at the other end of the fleet which are being retired. The 744s at average have twice as many flight hours, but just 40% of the cycles.

A330/A346 perhaps. There are several unnamed frames.

Indeed that would be interesting to know. The oldest LH A320s, built in 1989 are surely the record-holders among the type in terms of flight hours, as 1. LH utilizes their aircraft very efficiently and 2. almost all other A320s built in the late 80s aside those oldest LH frames have been scrapped.
