Before with political problems Libyan airspace was closed and airlines were avoiding Libya. Is Libyan airspace now open? Anyone flight over North Africa able to look at their monitors?

Airspace is definitely open. Afriqiyah has been flying again for quite some time now. Not sure about whether airlines are overflying Libya at this point though.

Yes there are overflying routes, I was able to track the likes of SA and LH milking the FRA-JNB route. Flightradar24 shows the planes flying up to Sicily and Malta, then they disappear from the screens (Libyan ATC filtering all data?)

Flightradar24 is based on ADS-B data (and FAA data for flights in the U.S.). I doubt there's anyone in Libya with ADS-B receivers providing the data to Flightradar24 which is no doubt why the flights disappear when they leave European airspace.
