Building Aer Lingus And JetBlue Brand Recognition

I have always thought that both Aer Lingus and jetBlue would benefit if they each re-painted one of their aircraft (A320) in the livery of the other and operated them on a high profile route.

Example
- Aer Lingus paints one of their A320's in jetBlue's livery and operates the aircraft on the DUB-LHR route
- jetBlue paints an A320 in the Aer Lingus livery and operates it on their JFK-BOS/ORD route.

Routes
- With EI serving both ORD and BOS they would be obvious choices to build their brand
- DUB-LHR/UK domestic would benefit jetBlue brand recognition within the UK

Interiors would remain the same and it would of course remain registered, operated and crewed as normal.

I know that many will say that you cannot guarantee that one specific aircraft will operate only one route and that it would interefere with fleet management but with 20+ EI operations per day to LHR and 10 B6 operations to BOS surely the majority of sectors could be to key cities.

I cannot be the only one who would love to see an Aer Lingus A320 taxiing around JFK and how cool would it be see jetBlue in LHR?

Thoughts?

Yes it would be 'cool'.....however what tangible benefit would it provide?

B6 in LHR would be nice for spotters but for the normal punter who doesn't hang around airports it doesn't really increase the chances o pa booking LHR-DUB-JFK-RDU just to fly with B6.

Similarly EI already have a presence in JFK, BOS and ORD. So a green A320 doesn't help too much there. And again will a green A320 in Raleigh increase the chance of someone booking RDU-JFK-DUB just to fly with EI?


I do see what you are getting at, perhaps a promo decal on a few B6 aircraft next summer when EI move to T5 in JFK, with similar on 2-3 EI aircraft?

I would argue that passengers will definitely be surprised at the aircraft they are boarding and ask questions, providing plenty of opportunities for EI and B6 to highlight their (not exactly) codeshare agreement.

It should also provide a bit of media coverage and having a EI flying billboard bouncing around the East Coast of the US can only help Aer Lingus. Similarly a jetBlue aircraft flying into UK domestic and european airports can only increase their exposure.

Maybe I was being a little selfish limiting their operation to JFK/BOS/ORD and DUB/LHR

JetBlue (and presumably Aer Lingus) don't limit certain aircraft on certain routes.

I doubt it would get any meaningful media coverage in the US.

B6 partners with several airlines, I don't know why you think they have some special relationship with Aer Lingus that they would tout over the others.

Instead of gimmicks maybe B6 and EI should just do some good old fashioned hard work of advertising/promoting their products. Maybe some B6 banners in DUB and vice versa. Has anyone ever seen an EI ad on New York television or a B6 ad during an Irish football match? I never have.

Maybe a few will. How many people actually get up to look at the aircraft that just arrived at the gate? Some will notice the green when walking down the jetway, but most won't think twice. If it looks like a regular B6 plane on the inside then what's so special about it?

I agree that seeing an A320 in EI/B6 colors overseas would paint a poor picture for uninformed passengers who would think they're sending an A320 over the Atlantic.

Perhaps EI and B6 could paint some sort of banner/half paint (ex: Star Alliance's old ones with each airlines paint on sections of the fuselage) that promotes "Green & Blue, your two favourite colours" with an EI logo on a B6 jet and vice versa, but not a whole paint.

I agree....a sticker would be the most cost-effective way to promote the partnership on the aircraft. It seems to me that the promotion has been rather one sided with EI taking the lead. ( Note: I havent been in BOS or Jamaica/Queens in a while, so there may be billboards galore I dont know about.) But as far as B6's website and social media, it seems like of passive.

INHO, the Alliance logojets do not bring much to the table from the casual flyer. Yes, they look cool (to us) but I have had pax say 'I bought a ticket on XXX, who the **** is ________" when there is a logojet at the gate.
