MH's B 747-400 Fleet Retirement Confirmed?

Heard that Malaysia Airlines plans to retire its entire B 747-400 fleet. Is this confirmed? If yes when will the last flight be?

Already gone? Geeeez.

So they have ordered 6 A380s altogether. Will they order more? I think they need up to 8-10 to fully replace the B 747-400 fleet.

Incorrect. MH keeps operating a single daily B744 rotation as MH123/122 KUL SYD KUL through February 2013. Last service currently planned as MH122 SYD KUL on March 01. Four frames have all been fairly recently deployed on this sole remaining route: 9M-MPK/L/M/P.

I don't have the informational on hand, but i read from a source that Malaysian Airlines have just recently ordered 6 A380-800s which brings its total A380 order to 12 aircrafts with 4 already delivered.

That were two fantastic planes indeed. But Lobster? That was a Hibiscus flower if I remember right.

With the announcement of the phasing out of the 744s MH also announced that the 777s will be retired soon. Was it 2015?

GDS shows EQV, not a 744 specifically, so yes it would be correct to say that no 744 are shown on the scheduled.

But ultimately, does not matter much as the type is as good as dead at MH.

We must be looking at different things -- shows EQV on mine.

If you look carefully at the linked schedule, any mid period equipment changes are well noted by MH.
For example MH141 KUL-SYD switches from 772 to 333 on March 6/7 and is reflected as such.

But the MH121 is shown as EQV for the entire schedule timeframe and does not reflect at any intended 744 use or swaps from 744 to 772 later in March if that was the intention.

From other sources just this week:

"walked away from a purchase of 2x MAS B734 aircraft earlier this year; MAS couldn’t provide all the required technical history. One of those aircraft is now being scrapped in UK."

and

"QANTAS ended up having to retire an ex-MH 744 quite early after they discovered that the aircraft in fact had hidden (and serious) damage from some work done at MH years earlier."

Allegations seem to continue to be made.

I think he may have been jokingly alluding to DL's penchant for acquiring used aircraft of types they already have in the fleet, not making a serious statement.

Thai so far has only operated regional routes with its A380 but will soon begin using the aircraft for Bangkok-Frankfurt, followed by Bangkok-Paris.

Thai at this point has no intention of following MAS in using the A380 for London.the A380 on Bangkok-London would represent too big of a jump in capacity. He pointed out that the carrier currently serves the route with Airbus A340-600s, which Thai configures with only 267 seats, and that the carrier prefers to maintain two daily frequencies on the route with relatively small capacity aircraft.
