Afriqiyah Airways revealed a new livery today in Tripoli. The livery will be introduced a soon to be delivered aircraft.
A bad quality photo taken just a few hours ago:
The airline’s current livery features a "9.9.99" logo on the tail and engines, which mark the date (9 September 1999) when the Sirte Declaration, which established the African Union, was signed in Sirte, Libya under the then Gaddhafi regime.

Quoting lostsound (Reply 2): Did they really need to change their livery? Seemed modern to me.
It was too closely-linked to the deposed Gadaffi regime, especially the "9.9.99" date of the Sirte Declaration that established the African Union, one of Gadaffi's pet projects. And the declaration that adopted the agreement is named for Gadaffi's hometown where the meeting was held.

I am sure Libya wants to move beyond the old color scheme. I loved the black and white and use of a technicolor pattern on the tail of the old livery. It is very creative and pretty. That is the good part. Celebrating a date with an aircraft livery is a bit strange and jingoistic. It's like an American airline celebrating 1776 or 1492 on an aircraft.
The new livery is real boring, boring, boring. Very non-memorable and non-controversial.
