Its part of the JV.
Since carriers fully share cost and revenues on these flights the airlines can mix-match their fleets and capacity to provide the best solution.
With UA removing the 744 from ORD and being limited in its own capacity options, a 2nd ANA flight backfills for the lost seats while providing added timing options for the consumer.

I shared this news with Chicawgo the other day and I think it was the best Christmas gift he received this year. No joke.
It's a great move for NH and UA. There is definitely a need for a late afternoon departure to Tokyo from Chicago, seeing that AA's flight to NRT is currently the last one to leave at 12:30 PM.
I was also informed that ANA has introduced their new 77W product on the Chicago flights.
Now, all we need is verbal confirmation that the OZ ICN flight becomes daily and I will be a very happy camper for S13 at ORD.

I am really looking forward to visiting ORD next summer with all the extra international flights. There really has been something of an "explosion" in terms of international connectivity increase year-on-year for ORD 2013.
We have:
- EI to DUB (increase in frequency by 4x weekly)
- AB to TXL/BER (new service - 5x weekly)
- NH to NRT (increase in frequency by 1x daily)
- AA to DUS (new service - 1x daily)
- OS to VIE (new service - 5x weekly)
- QR to DOH (new service - 1x daily)
- UA to SNN (new service - 5x weekly)
Woah I must've missed this one in the threads! This is great news - always enjoyed OS product during the 90s. Very glad to have them back, and I hope they are here to stay. Any word on type? Are any of the above seasonal only, or all they are year-round?

Could the glory days of ORD be returning? 2013 is shaping up to be a great year for service additions. I got a feeling EK is lurking waiting to announce ORD. PK has stated thier intention to return, as well as HU looking to commence service. T5 is gonna be stacked to the brim. For a airport that is not near the coast, ORD has a impressive lineup. I personally wish NH would have launched ORD-KIX, but connections to other Japanese destinations are plentiful out of NRT.

OS flight will be operated by Tyrolean airways and will be a 763 with winglets.
only new Intl Seasonal additions is UA to SNN and UA/OO to NAS. Everything else should be year round.

Air France is confirmed to return to ORD this summer, stifling rumors that Delta was going to take over this route (on its own metal, on a flight operated by Delta crews, you know what I mean, etc).
Air France is scheduled to return sometime in mid-to-late March and will offer 5w services until mid-June. From there, it will either go 6x weekly or daily until the fall.
Additionally, UA is launching the new weekly ORD-SJO route on April 13, 2013 which is expected to run year round, as well as a new daily flight on UA to YQT (Thunder Bay, ON)
Other than the rumored PK return (which to me sounds more credible than the shady HU announcement) I think you have it covered.
Quoting kyrone (Reply 12): How will they check in at the LH counters when they use different handlers and the departures conflict?
Not sure yet. It's possible that OS may share space with LX in T5 or LH in T1. To be truthful, the whole T5 vs. T1/T3 situation is completely ambiguous to me. I find it interesting that IAG is split between two terminals, as well as the LH Group.
I was walking through the non-sterile part of T5 at ORD last week and there's definitely some free counter space near the CX/CM check-in areas, which I presume will go to QR? Then again, QR joining OW could be another wild card situation.
The Mexicana counters are also still alive and well. Who knows what is going to happen there.
Alitalia also has two counters going, which is odd to me considering that they are seasonal.
IF PK does return to ORD, I'm curious to know where they will go.

Well fond NH. Glad to see so many new long haul carriers and destinations. ORD has a gulf carrier soon and 5 daily NRT flights! Not bad! Also a couple of new UA destinations. How many total seats will there be daily on ORD-NRT?

OS shared with LX their last time around.
NH and LH share checkin counters, but UA handles NH and not LH. Thats why I'm curious how they will do it when the second NH departure is during LH operations...
PK has typically gone at the old air jamiaca counters.
